Hitching a Ride
Nice optical illusion just framed at the right angle. The flowers are still in full bloom and well tended by the gardeners.
Sir Francis do you ever tire
Of looking at the same old view ?
For a hundred years you've cast your eye
Over the lawns where the roses bloom ,
And never once have dropped your neck
To see who made your shoe shine gleam ;
Sir Francis don't you ever get sick
Of gaping on the same old scene ?
We Victorians have stiff upper lips ,
Especially sat here when the park frost nips ,
I never waver to left or right ,
Keep the straight and narrow within my sight ,
Little use to try and peer
At what goes on to the rear ,
In this view I will not veer ,
Never give up or throw in the towel ,
Citizens , in this I'm most sincere ,
Your loyal servant Sir Francis Powell .
Wrong Powell, Dennis!
Reminds me of Granny Clampett played by Irene Ryan the The Beverly Hillbillies who used to sit in a rocking chair on top of that beat up truck.
Are they taking him back to his birthplace in Yorkshire?
Very amusing Dennis...& clever !
The statue is of Francis Sharp-Powell, a Conservative MP for Wigan.
He was born in Wigan and was no relation to Baden Powell who was a British Army officer who was born in London.
Baden was in the scouts, the mon sat in Wigan park with stone belly wasn't
Correct Les, this is Sir Francis Powell, not Baden Powell.
Great minds think alike Colin. My post didn’t appear…my comment was “ Jed Clampett rides again”…in a different guise.. Good one Dennis.
Just a slip of the fingers, I forgive you, Dennis.
We’re going to get mixed up again. The Anne above is not me.
Good grief! We all know who it is. Don’t take things so seriously!
The John Noakes above was definitely me.
Great photo Dennis. It made me laugh. You have a great talent for capturing the moment.
Haha - fantastic!
