Wrightington Lake

Wrightington Lake
It must be nice to live in that house and wake up to that view every morning.

Without a doubt Dennis, pity I didn’t see your comment about Holmfirth sooner last Sunday as I would’ve definitely visited the cafe.By the way how would I get to the Colliers Aspull by bus from Westhoughton now please.

Didn't Dave Whelan live there at one time?

Comment by: PeterP on 27th July 2024 at 07:03

Every time I drive past the lakes seem devoid of wild birds?

I like that Dennis, the way you have the house peeking round the corner at the view. Looks reakly good.

Dennis you will have course noticed the new 'in ' word I used...reakly...its all the rage & your really with it if you use it !

A hidden gem! Although we're almost in August, the photo puts me in mind of Wordsworth's "Daffodils"....."Beside the lake, beneath the trees". Nice photo, Dennis.

NO NO NO Frank, Dave Whelan never lived there, and the water is know as Wrightington fish ponds.
It's not very hidden our Irene if you turn your head as you go down that road.

Good photo Dennis,
according to what's written in the link, it was at one time the Calderbank family, though now it's the owner of Dorbcrest Homes who lives there:

It was also a nice bridge on the road over the lake too: https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=5&id=3998&gallery=Wrightington&page=1

John, just catch the 575 from Wigan and get off at the first stop over the canal.
The 575 is the only bus that goes this way now.

Thank you Dennis we will definitely pay a visit to the Colliers in the very near future,I wonder if Irene and Peter are aware of the classic car cafe at Holmfirth and they might be related to the very nice family that run the Boshaw Trout a short distance from the classic car cafe and well worth a visit.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 27th July 2024 at 20:58

Thankyou for that John....whereabouts in Holmfirth is the cafe please?

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 27th July 2024 at 23:43

Thankyou Dennis. Is the Classic Car cafe mentioned by John (Westhoughton) a different one as he said it is in Holmfirth.

Irene I have left several messages but for some reason none have appeared so apologies for late response as Saturday early bed for riding Sunday,Dennis told me about the classic car cafe but I haven’t been as yet but I did go to the Boshaw Trout hotel that is run by the Roberts family and is excellent, I see Dennis as explained where the cafe is sorry my messages didn’t get through.
