Jaxons Court
Only for the bus station this would just be another forgotten
‘ backwater’ . The town centre should have had more of these quaint “corners’.. interesting to walk through.
There used to be a lovely cafe down there called "The Chatteries". My daughter Ashley and I were regulars in there. Ashley later worked in The Ethnic Emporium, also in Jaxon's Court, before she moved to Smith's bookshop. I too love these quaint alleyways, reminiscent of York, but sadly the businesses that open these days up don't seem to last long.
Although I have taken a few photos of Jaxons Court, I don’t remember sending this one. How Bizarre!
This area used to look much cleaner and smarter a few years ago.It is still a quaint corner though.
Thai massage shop and the ale house are doing well.
It is a quaint area with many of the small buildings filled with character. The challenge for these businesses is that people are often rushing through to catch a bus or get into town.
People don’t seem to have much time these days to slow down and browse it’s all rush rush rush.
I go to Wigan every week and walk through here every time.. I still love it, it always seems to keep a nice atmosphere. There used to be a shop with beautiful dolls in the window ( I just love dolls)..plus the name Jacob’s Court always sounds posh.
Next time your walking through Jacobs court put your specs on and look at the street sign
I will Phil,can’t wait.
August 1947 a bloke named Murray driving a 7 ton truck knocked down a police constable in old Trafford Manchester, without even knowing. The case was proven, but Murray was dismissed. Fred Rose Haulage was fined £1 for the poor state of the vehicle.
Colin there’s a hint of Cornwall in your photo today, was thinking of Veronica earlier as we parked at the Lowther Pavilion today and did a ride to north Cleveleys and the Arts Society Fylde Monthly Lecture was on at 2pm today,Lytham green fenced off as Festival starts tomorrow and a Blackpool pier area crawling with police as one guy threatening to throw himself off the pier.
I’ve been up onto Kinder Scout in the high peak on numerous occasions over the years Phil , and on a number of those occasions I’ve retuned back to Edale via Jaxons ladder , as an alternative to dropping down into Glossop or crossing the Snake pass and descending into the Longdendale valley via devil’s dike and Bleaklow head .
I’d be interested to learn from where you obtain your info re : Fred Rose TD , I’ve managed to find buggerall on t’net regarding the company .
Any chance of posting a link ? … possibly ?
If you like going to Art exhibitions John there’s a brilliant one all through August at Grasmere in the Village Hall. Superb Art work there and very professional. As well as a nice day out. I go every year mainly with Blackrod Art Group. I have also caught the train to the Lakes and then on the bus to Grasmere.
Thank you for the info Veronica might give it a try as I like Grasmere as the defunct cortina club used to attend classic car shows there and I’ve done some walking around Grasmere not forgetting the Gingerbread shop.
Phil Muchmorecr-p can’t you recognise a ‘spell check’ when you see one?. Actually I think Jacob’s Creek sounds even nicer Maureen.
OZY: I've posted a comment on Dennis's Scot Lane pad photo, including the link you may be interested in.
Many thanks for the link T. D.
