Changing Face of Wigan
If that’s the ‘face of Wigan’ the sky is about to weep over it!
What is being built Mick , the umpteenth roomed Hilton or is it a mill being recycled ?
I won't bother to comment on this. I asked a civil and polite question on yesterday's photo and received a rude and uncalled-for reply.
It was quite condescending Irene as well. O
Irene, there have been a few rude comments again lately, one from someone giving there name as Helen.
The Helen we know would put a comment on like that I am sure by the tone it was male! It is hard to ignore them even though we should.
Sorry Mick, I had to get that off my chest. Which building is that? Good to see quite a bit of scaffolding going up in and around town.
Dennis had one of The Pagefield and there is more on the Clarence Chambers Wallgate and The County Playhouse King Street, perhaps regeneration is at last underway.,
Changing face of Wigan indeed. Do not despair there is a certain gentleman from howfen walking around the borough today and chatting to whoever he meets. I have just been told he is heading on foot through Borsdane wood to get to the next town. He has spoken to Andy Burnham and others previously about the state of the howfen bus service. He says he lives behind the Gerrard Arms in Westhaughton and they have had no bus for.. four years! Making a joke of his pensioners bus pass. He is on a campaign for change and has just told one of the local ladies he will be appearing on TV this Thursday to have his grumble before voting day. He is 85 years of age. Faith in community spirit restored if nowt else.
Not worth commenting on this Irene. Is it me or do the snide comments almost always come from one person??
It is the Eckersley Mill development, and nowt to do with the council, and it is being done with private money, and it is happening now, look !!!!, scaffolding, crane, workmen and workwomen working on it, and that is 'because' it has nowt doo with council.

The changing face of Wigan ~ aye, and under a dreich sky at that.
I just tend to get the blame Elizabeth, if I stick up for myself, but even my severest critic is welcome to go back and read my friendly, polite and Innocent query on yesterday's pad. There was no call for the insulting reply which I received.
You're right Irene love, you don't comment if that's what you get.
But if you are interested in finding this row of cottages, maybe I can help.
One way is to keep on going at the top of Gidlow Lane, or come down Standishwood lane turn left at Giants Hall Farm then turn right at Brimlows Farm, or come in through Gidlow cemetery then take the Farm track and you will see them over the field on the right hand side.
Irene, some days we can put up with it, other days these comments catch us out and it’s not very nice.
If it were not for the genuine people on WW I would have packed it in months ago. But there’s still time.
Now, cannot wait for some numpty to post ‘Good Riddance’.
A relative of mine lived there, Gordon. Ken Lythgoe.
I hope something is done TD about the non existent bus route. It’s scandalous. I loved going that way to Wigan down ‘Dicky Lone’. Good luck to that gentleman. I hope he hasn’t got blisters on his feet.
Thanks everyone.
I know what you mean Irene,it was rude and you said nothing offensive at all. Also,I miss that bus route too Veronica.
I notice you make mention of
“ my severest critic “ in one of your posts Irene and I was just wondering
whether or not the individual that you had in mind for that title was no-one other than myself , as I have , admittedly , supported Mick’s view on a number of occasions .
But perhaps you had someone else in mind … I have no way of knowing … but just to put my mind at rest …
Could you give me an honest answer to a straightforward
question ?
The question would be … Do you consider me to be your severest critic ?
( personally I would have worded it as “ My most severe critic “ , but I guess it all comes down to one’s preference . )
The answer would be either yes … or it would be no … And that’s how simple it is .
And if I could venture to voice a critical comment regarding this site , it would be down to the fact that the punctuation of one’s comment invariably appears on the line below the actual comment .
No Ozy. There are a number of people who seem to think I have it in for Mick and my comment was a generalisation of those people, and not aimed at a particular one. I am quite willing to show friendship to him....I am not a nasty person. But it is an uphill struggle. I hope his uncalled for answer to my polite question resonated with those who have seen me as the 'baddie'. There was no excuse for it and it was hurtful. I had said nothing wrong and I didn't deserve that. As people have said today , it would be better to ignore it, but why should I? I have every right to stand up.for myself. I apologise Ozy but I am at a bit of a loss at what you mean re the punctuation so can't answer that, I'm afraid. Hope all is well with you and yours.xx
I see Mick's friend Joan has just posted on yesterday's pad that she doesn't think he posted the offending comment as apparently he is in The Hebrides. My daughter lives in The Hebrides and she can comment quite easily from there if she chooses to. But Thank-you Joan.....you are obviously a loyal friend.
For what it’s worth - In my opinion …He can’t disguise his ‘tone’ or way of writing Ozy. It’s his ‘finger print’ ..he knows when the games up because his so called ‘side-kicks’ jump to his defence….whether he’s in the Hebrides or not. There is still a signal up there ..…. On the other hand if somebody is impersonating him they’re doing a good job and using his terms of ‘endearment’- ie “love’’. It sounds like somebody obsessed to me. Trying to cover up what has been said - probably as a joke but misfired. There’s no need for it as Irene’s posts are always sincere and dignified. She didn’t deserve that belittling post.
