Pier Alarms Train Set
Photo: Mick Byrne (Samsung SM-A145R)
Peter and I had a "go" at that a few weeks ago when I had a hospital appointment and we walked to the hospital up Wigan Lane. You operate a switch which is located on the outside of the Pier Alarms shop window and the train-set actually works. We were like two kids.....it was lovely!
This is one for the boys Mick !
Always attracts my eye when I pass by but never seen it so close up. Don't think I have ever seen the trains running though, thought they were on strike.
Thanks for the tip Irene, you learn something every day. Cannot wait to try it.
Wonderful Irene. Irresistable isn't it. I'm guilty of having a free press in the dark too, and suddenly the layout lights up and off it goes. The star attraction of Wigan. Give it a go folks, it could brighten up your day.
Gud un Mick.
Yes like Irene says you can press a button on the window frame to make the train run.
also a notice in the window says what you can look out for, a car crash, a church with a wedding and a funeral taking place at the same time, a farm with an horny pig,a house on fire with the fire brigade, someone attempting to jump off a roof, a man on a bike, and much much more you just have to look.
"The star attraction of Wigan."
Well. That says it all, does it not?
How wonderful
It's a good relaxing attraction for folks walking by and especially children and Mick who end up squabbling as to who has the next go, it was good of Pete to install it, though it is a crowd puller and therefore draws folks attention to what the shop actually sells, though there are other alarm fitters.
There is another model train set display running in the window of Sawyer Models on Bradshawgate Leigh, that too is quite relaxing to see it running through the model stations, countryside and tunnels.
Mick and Cyril …
Wiggin’s own version of the Chuckle Brothers .
Mick has a dig at Cyril , then Cyril gets his own back on Mick … touché
Cyril .
Keep it up lads , nothing disrespectful about it in my eyes . Just a bit of harmless xxxx taking , nowt else .
Ter me … Ter thee …
Ozy, please tell me how you get the e-acute on the word touche.....I can't fathom it! Thanks. xxx
Hold your finger on the letter e for a second or two Irene and nine options particular to several languages will appear in the box just above . Then select the one you require .
Same procedure applies regarding the rest of the vowels .
Give it a go .
But don’t let on to Mick that I told you ,
I don’t want him calling me Mr grammar school underpants .

Dear me , have I already pressed the submit button or not ?
Lordy ! this cheap plonk from Aldi has a lot to answer for that’s for sure . Any road , I’ll press the bugger again and see what occurs eh ?
toucheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee As you can see, Ozy, I just get a load of "e's"......it's probably my ancient lap-top! But thankyou.
é by gum, it worked.
Irene, on your laptop, try holding ALT and CTRL (control) at the same time then pressing e.
Oz's method is how my iphone would do it.
Irene , I know zilch about computers or keyboards and I’m not familiar with your set-up , but evidently the required result can be achieved by applying the “Alt code method” .
On a Windows keyboard for instance , you need to press the Alt key whilst typing the code 0233 into the device then the letter you require . There’s a specific code for whichever accent you require apparently but 0233 will give you the lower case e with the acute accent (allegedly).
It all sounds a bit complicated to me , but this ( according to the internet ) will produce the desired result .
Give it a shot why not ?
It probably won’t work of course , in which event you’ll need to ask Cyril to post a link , ‘cos
I can’t do links …
Perhaps Cyril could also post a link explaining how to do links on an ipad ?
é.....John and Ozy, thankyou so much! The Alt and Control did it! Ozy, I googled how to do it and it showed various methods including the one with the codes that you mention above but unfortunately none worked on my keyboard; I imagine different methods work on different keyboards. However, thankyou so much for your kind help. I will now be thinking of words with é in them so I can show off in my p-a-d comments!!
Èèèèè well done Irene. I found it a bit difficult at first. But with a bit of Bon Chance! No plonk needed.
Irene, to use the ALT + code to get foreign accents, you need to type the code numbers on the number pad on the right of your keyboard, not the numbers along the top. Apologies if you have already done that!
Thankyou John. The Alt and Control plus the letter e pressed all together produced the e-acute perfectly. The only numbers on my keyboard are the ones on the row above the "qwerty" line.....there is no other "number pad".
Would that be TAFFY JACKSON ?
