Party Boat
I see the main mon is back cheers Mick.
Not really a nice place to have a drink with the noise of the motorway above. Hope no one fell in the cut.
Good photo Dennis, A interesting view of the viaduct showing the solid barrier section over the Manchester to Southport railway line, they made the barriers solid to stop debris falling down on the railway lines.
My understanding is that solid concrete barriers began to be erected over railway lines following the Selby train crash in February 2001. Ten people were killed when a Land Rover and trailer ran off the M62 onto the railway. A passenger train hit them and was pushed across into the path of an oncoming freight train.
I've been told that they used 1800 tons of steel, 2600 tons of concrete and 8000 nuts & bolts in the viaduct construction.
Bit late checking in today...glad to see you are back Mick with an interesting photo.
Very nice photo Mick and Welcome back.
Was that a gathering in remembrance of someone with them all wearing 'Forty Shades of Green' or thereabouts.
Something different Mick, it's been a long time and hopefully see more of your photos.
Mick how did your replacement go as I will soon need new knees, was you on your bike to take this photo as I’ve noticed vehicles at that point.
That's right Rev David, it says here that, Gary Hart finished talking to the woman at 2.30am and then browsed the internet until 3.58am. At 4.40am, without having slept, he set off on the 145-mile journey from his home in Lincolnshire to work in the Lancashire town of Wigan, it was alleged on the first day of his trial. Mr Hart succumbed to sleep at 6.10am.29 Nov 2001
Me too a bit late today, Tesco and gardening duties took presidency!
Mick, as a recent contributor I used to trawl through your past postings, they’re what inspired me to start clicking.
A great gathering in a nice stretch of the canal despite the traffic zooming across the bridge.
What’s Les Jones on about, “Good photo Dennis”?
I'm not sure where "Dean Locks" is or what a "Party Boat" is! A few years ago we went on a boat-ride from Wigan Pier for Peter's brother's 80th birthday.....just nibbles and drinks, (there was a bar), and a few years ago my son treated us to a "hot-pot supper" on a boat which left from Lathom, but I am a bit lost with the Party Boat. However, I hope all those on it had a good time. I am glad I managed to see today's p-a-d as my ancient laptop is on its last legs and conked out last night but I managed to retrieve it today but goodness knows for how long.....I can see a replacement is on the agenda!
Now then, I've heard of the Gathurst viaduct and have been driven over but I have never seen it from this angle.
Mick, do you not get scared when you go under the viaduct after you and your family witnessed the truck crashing through the barriers and landing in the river Douglas.
I can remember reading all about it in the papers, and it said you jumped from the bank to the truck to try and rescue the poor driver.
A nicely seen scene :)
Howdo, Mick has the Parish Council got your bike back from the Tip? Or, are you yet another one of them A.I. micks we’ve been plagued with?
We thought the Parish Council had you safely ensconced in the Parish Lock-Up.
Seriously though Mick, if you are the real Mick, I’m glad to see you back ‘cos I haven’t seen a photo of a lump of concrete for ages now…with or without a dandelion.
Hi Mick, great photo and nice to see you back on PaD.
Keep them coming.
John (westhoughton) the knee replacement went well but it hurt like hell trying to get it walking again. Its 3 months now, but in June they want to see me again to have the other one done.
Joan, I don't think of it now, but its still very clear of the bang up on the viaduct and then the truck coming over the side.
I did try my best to get into the cab of the truck but the door would only open a few inches, but and could feel the drivers cold legs, the rest of him was under water so I knew I was to late.
A while after 2 truck drivers had scrambled down from the motorway with a crowbar and we managed to get the door more open, but we could see it was to late to save him.
Very nice to see you back on here Mick, its well worth the wait.
You always have something different with your selection of photos.
Irene you can always use you mobile phone instead of your computer to see pad or indeed anything else.
Great to see Mick back, he's took some interesting pictures on his bike rounds. Hope we see more of your photos Mick.
Malc, my mobile phone only does calls and texts.....it isn't an i-phone or whatever they call them. It doesn't take photos or do anything but calls and texts and I can't connect to the internet on it, but thankyou for the suggestion.
