No character anymore Wigan Wallgate, to be blunt, the top quality shops have long gone taken over by junk food outlets and barbers shops. Cars and vans parked all over the place even on double yellow lines. This once thriving town is now a scruffy town. No one in authority couldn't careless.

Comment by: Roy. on 20th March 2024 at 08:14

Nice spot of zoom compression there, Dennis!

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th March 2024 at 08:22

It's probably just an optical illusion but from the angle of the photo it looks as if it were taken from Wigan Wallgate Station rather than Wigan North Western. That's just an observation, not a criticism. The man in the glow-in-the -dark pants won't get knocked down, will he?! LOL!

Comment by: Bee on 20th March 2024 at 08:43

Photo taken top of a bus.

Comment by: Pw on 20th March 2024 at 08:56

To be honest Dennis this type of photo is not for me.

Comment by: Veronica on 20th March 2024 at 09:14

It’s an optical illusion that makes it look busy…New York it’s not….a dozen people and three vehicles. I thought the same Irene from Wallgate Station. Just shows the camera can lie after all! Sad Wigan…

Comment by: Roy. on 20th March 2024 at 10:02

Irene - the man in the glow in the dark pants is in the middle of the pavement on Wallgate, between its junctions with Library Street and Bretherton Row,

Comment by: Axcroft on 20th March 2024 at 10:43

I love these compressed views, making the familiar look like a different place! Great photo. Was it taken from the extreme left hand side of the platform right on top of the bridge?

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 20th March 2024 at 11:52

Yes Axcroft, that’s where it was taken from.
It’s just a different way of looking at a familiar scene. Not to everyone’s liking maybe, but you have to try something different now and again, otherwise you never learn anything.

Comment by: Jembo on 20th March 2024 at 13:10

Defo from Wigan North Western as that G4S van and pedestrian crossing are outside Wallgate Station. Nice bit of zoom compression as has been said. Predictable moans as usual.

Comment by: Pw on 20th March 2024 at 13:35

I was not moaning.Dennis puts excellent photos on PAD.

Comment by: Terence on 20th March 2024 at 13:39

Baffle them with science, Dennis!
Some of them on here make me think of Father Dougal in Father Ted, when he couldn't understand why the cows in the distance were smaller than those in the field in front of him.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 20th March 2024 at 14:21

Roy, I knew he was on the pavement. It was just a quip with regard to his day-glo clothing. But thankyou. xx

No my cup of tea!
Pennington Flash is nice.....

Comment by: Malc on 20th March 2024 at 14:31

At least the drunks smoking their heads off outside Harry's Bar are not in the photo.

Comment by: Sir Bob on 20th March 2024 at 14:32

I don't think it looks good or bad, it just looks like any other town in the country, and I would agree that the photo was taken from a train platform on the Wigan North West railway station.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th March 2024 at 14:38

Dennis, thanks for the explanation, I must confess the location of where you were stood had me baffled as I could see the columns of the (former) Victoria Hotel on the left.
Content not particularly interesting but technically perfect, thanks, I like it.

Comment by: Dek on 20th March 2024 at 14:52

"Father Dougal in Father Ted,"
I thought they were celibate.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th March 2024 at 15:22

Terrance, that comparison made me laugh. A bit of humour is all that’s needed and goes a long way.
I am sure Dennis will appreciate it.

Comment by: Jeff on 20th March 2024 at 16:10

It don't matter where its taken from its still boring. the towns lost it's ID. As a man born in wigan it don't feel like home anymore.

Comment by: Colin Traynor on 20th March 2024 at 18:08

Dennis, we both know you can never please everyone even if you posted next weeks lottery numbers.
Keep up the good work but don’t stand on the parapet of Wallgate railway bridge next time!

Comment by: Al on 20th March 2024 at 19:34

I'm not too keen with the place where the photo was taken, but I wouldn't tell anyone. Keep your thoughts to yourself.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 20th March 2024 at 19:51

Have you never been on North West Station Colin?

Comment by: Cyril on 20th March 2024 at 20:10

It is a good and a different photo Dennis.

Dek, maybe it's the reason Father Jack doesn't drink the tea.

Irene, he should have got a longer leg length in his glow pants too.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 20th March 2024 at 20:29

I haven't seen any comments from Poet for a while. Has he given up on us?

Comment by: Pooet on 20th March 2024 at 22:17

From the station platform, through the haze, I gazed,
into the town where I was raised,
fond memories erased.
I look again, towards Greggs,
where frequently a foreigner begs
and I remember,
I forgot to shave my legs.
My train arrives.

Comment by: Poet on 21st March 2024 at 07:25

Needless to say the 22.17 comment is not from me .
In fact it's such silly masquerading that as put me off the site. . I'm a bit fed up of my photos being rejected too , so I've given up posting them .

Comment by: Veronica on 21st March 2024 at 09:09

Poet I knew very well it wasn’t you …don’t let the clowns put you off.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st March 2024 at 09:24

Ps I loved your photos they are beautiful… with your own stamp on them.

Comment by: Garry on 21st March 2024 at 11:37

Poet, keep going your a star, we all need people like you on pad, you cheer everyone up with a smile. Veronica is right.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st March 2024 at 13:32

There’s only Dtease can pull off the comical rhymes….and you are both missed actually for your intelligence.

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 21st March 2024 at 13:40

Poet, you are part of us. We've all been the victims of these mindless idiots who pose as someone else. Please don't leave or they will have won.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 21st March 2024 at 14:47

Poet, you have a style that is all your own, it would be a shame not to share it.

Comment by: Poet on 21st March 2024 at 16:07

Dear all , I'm touched by such kind words. . In truth the retard who performs these antics hasn't really targeted me . It's the sniping at others , in particular Veronica and Irene that has become so monotonous and childish that sometimes I just couldn't be bothered to read anymore .
But , if those two doyens of PaD ain't bothered then on with the show .

The glorious February snowscapes I went out in a blizzard to capture that never appeared didn't hack me off one bit . No sir . Not one bit :-)
Be seeing you .

Comment by: That Mon. on 21st March 2024 at 17:10

Composite Wall Panels.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st March 2024 at 18:43

I have really missed a snowscape this year Poet….what a pity - you never know it might snow yet according to the weather forecast.

Comment by: Garry on 21st March 2024 at 18:53

Great the Sherry is on me, Poet.
