King Of Prussia Pub?

Yes I think it is. Sure I’ve seen something before to confirm this.
Never been in this chippy so I don't what there like, but after saying that it is traditional fish and chips. I much prefer chippy than kabbs, pizza and all that rubbish. Where getting like America with this Just eat nonsense.
Good chippy this one.
I totally agree, traditional Fish and Chips the best. Kabbs pizza junk food.
I have left you a couple of messages Colin under the St Pat’s Swimming team.
I love the cobbles, (setts if you prefer), and hope they will never be covered up. Mr. Chips was very popular, Arthur, and their food was good but there wasn't much room in the seating area. I think it's closed down now but not certain......we tend to go to The Chippery on Market Street. which is excellent....good food and nice staff.
It was closed yesterday (Friday) lunchtime, so I would deduce from that, that it is now permanently closed.
I didn't know that Colin, you learn something every day. Yes Irene, I agree, I think it has now closed which is a shame really, their fish and chips were really good. We also use the Chippery round the corner and sometimes grab a chip barm on the hoof when we're in town. I'm going for a look tomorrow to take a few pictures of the bombsite. I might see how accessible those Market Arcade tiles are now :)
I too have never been in Arthur, I've read on comments that some Wiganworlders did like to call in when in town, and you're right too with all this Americanism.
I know previously Howard Gallimore was selling the chippy, but I've no idea if it was him Tony Callaghan or another owner who was auctioning the chippy in May 2022, or if or when it had been sold - https://images1.loopnet.com/d2/hWtE6M3euYja3r9wLSXjWEUpHFPIv2MJog8ZWGk2Ydc/document.pdf
- because on 19th Nov 2020 Tommy 2 stroke said on Communicate that Tony Callaghan was the owner of Mr Chips? https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/communicate/mb_message.php?opt=f1&msd=1473212&page=1&subject=Mr%20Chips%20Closef
Someone will know who now owns the business and if it shall ever open again, and it seems that many Wiganworlders when in town liked to call in there for a bag of chips or a slap with a wet fish from Baga Chipz.

The chippy closed, probably early last year? I went in regularly. The girl who owned it was really pleasant and she had spent quite a bit on the interior decoration. She lived in Ramsbottom and had bought it off Howard Gallimore. I asked around the other shop owners, but no none seemed to know what had happened ??. I did see something a few months ago where it said it was reopening but nothing transpired. Sad really as the fish and chips were EXCELLENT
I love chips.
I think the Mr Chips building is owned by Mr Hussain who lives in The Limes, Standish.
On what planet are kebabs and pizza 'Americanism' ???
Still, another opportunity for some people to wear their ignorance and narrow-mindedness as their badge of honour.....
I don't know who owns the business, but the building is owned by the Hussains (M&A Management).
It is a shame Ron, it makes you wonder what actually happened, especially with all the reviews on Google all being in praise and with folks giving 4 and 5 stars. Also it says Temporarily Closed, so it may re-open again.
Colin, Julie Melling has done a painting of the King of Prussia pub, see link below.

It's not often I agree with Gareth Cheetham, but, although I'm not keen on kebabs, I can eat an occasional pizza and I admit to loving what people call "junk food"...... I absolutely LOVE a MacDonald's or a KFC! Fabulous!
Irene are you aware that “Eneri Strebor” is your name back to front?
Just wondering. Seems odd.
I think? she may have 'overstretched herself' financially? Just my opinion.. Without a doubt they were best fish and chips in Wigan..
Cyril, that link to the painting is very interesting and presumably is based upon a photo or picture that predates Ron's photo of 1937 at which time the upper windows look the same as the above.
It would be very interesting to know what was the date of the picture that the painting on the link was based upon?
Thankyou Veronica....I hadn't noticed "Eneri Strebor" in the comments, but, as you say, it is my name spelled backwards. I can only assume that small things amuse small minds! Perhaps he's "Eneri the Eighth"? As Del-Boy would have said,"What a Plonker! ". I just can't understand why people do this. I assure everyone on p-a-d that it isn't me.... I know people may not always agree with my comments but I don't hide behind false names like a coward.
Had a really good chat with the lady who bought the chippy one day. She travelled daily from Bury ( I think ), and had spent a fortune on renovating the place. She really tried hard, and was lovely to the customers, but I think Covid and too much money up front did for the business. Shame.....
Gareth, how well timed of you for showing your ignorance and narrowmindedness by writing what you have!
No one wrote anything about kebabs and pizza being Americanism, the only thing mentioned about Americanism was Just Eat, and whose TV advertisements are way over the top with American razzmatazz.
Silly Billy is back with name anagrams, wonder why it's Irene's name they use, and with the same anagram they have used before?
Never mind Irene as the saying goes - Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Never been in this chippy so I don't what there like, but after saying that it is traditional fish and chips. I much prefer chippy than kabbs, pizza and all that rubbish. Where getting like America with this Just eat nonsense.
Although somewhat illiterate, Arthur clearly links pizza and kebabs with 'americanism' here.....
You noticed as well Cyril.
Well said Irene.
Nice one Cyril
There used to be a good chippy in Westhoughton, on Market Street, near the Victoria pub, but it went terrible when it changed hands.
The one up Church Street, Wingates Chippy, was also vary good but, unfortunately, went the same way.
Irene, I did once consider a pseudonym of Ronyart Niloc. That would have raised a laugh!
America has such a diverse population it goes without saying, the variety of ‘foreign’ food they eat is far wider than Britain’s. Pizza for example is due to the Italian immigrants. Anything in America is soon copied over here. That goes for food,
clothes, movies , music even language etc (as in ‘Americanisms’)
That’s what Arthur means. Why you have to ‘pounce’ on people’s posts is beyond me for something so trite. To describe someone as
“somewhat illiterate” …..
That is really below the belt and uncalled for.
You'll find that most things in America are copied from over here, especially food. The rest of the World had been cooking the same foods for centuries before America was even discovered.
Absolutely uncalled for, that was. Called for, it was not.
Veronica your spot on, Gareth's remarks to Arthur aren't justified, the pizza and kabbs were not linked to Americaisms, but just eat. Why do we always try to link American products with Britain is beyond me, ie American style fridges, so what!...big American burgers! and so on.
Exactly Ann.
Always bigger and better! Nice meeting ordinary Americans on holiday though. The portions they serve in restaurants are a lot bigger too!
Colin, I wouldn't know if there is a photo of the original pub or the lady painted it as she thought it would have been. I don't do Twitter or X has it is now become known so I can't ask, the painting link came up in a search.
Give me Scholes of old anyday.
I do agree with you, Harold, but the locals could be quite an unruly lot at times. Not an ounce of sense in a lot of them. I didn't fit in there, somehow, but I enjoyed my time there very much.
Creepy Stalking Weirdos …just be aware of name changers.
