University Centre Parsons Walk
Photo: Colin Traynor (iPhone)
Colin, I sent this same photo in yesterday. A pure coincidence. Hopefully Brian will not bother with my effort now.
Hardly a architectural wonder....more a brick box. If ever anything looked tacked on in haste, it's the one next to it.
What was said about Hardwick Hall fits that one perfectly....' More glass than Wall '
When we run out of buildings, or demolition sites, there's a beautiful park just round the corner. Maybe pigeons could be about. Today is like Spring so many plants and flowers to see and don't forget the Ducks.
A lot of the top Wigan hairdresser and fingernail technicians came out of this university.
My granddaughter was one of them.
Looks a nice clean building. They look two separate buildings.
It looks like you Dennis walking across the road.
One of those windows on the left hand side was the art class I went to some years ago..
One of the set of windows below was the pottery class where I believe there was quite a few smashed windows due to people learning how to control the pottery wheel.
Dennis, Brian must be inundated with our pictures, it must be a huge task to determine which to post! Keep up the good work.
Aspulonian, it only a matter of time before either Dennis or myself features on one or the other pictures!
I have only good things to say about the college. My granddaughter did really well here with her qualifications. She’s flying all over Europe these days in her dream job. She did extremely well. Onward and upwards with many openings available to her. She knew what she wanted to do from the age of 10. Good Luck to all the students.
Canal photos are the best.
For a nice view of the Performing Arts Centre itself contained within the University Centre see P.A.D. January 25th.
Arthur, I did send a good photo of the canal at Apply Bridge on a frosty morning, it might come up on PAD one day!
Pw, the building on the left is distinctly separate but might be interconnected, I think that was built in the 1960's and it looks even worse from the bus station, horrible in fact.
I did hear that it is scheduled to be pulled down, so we might get something better in its place, just hope its not another block of flats!
If your not keen on any photographs, keep it to yourself and don't comment. Many people do like building photographs.

One thing you can’t take away from Wigan it has some wonderful web sites. WW , Wigan Nostalgia , Wigan History and others . Also individual ones about Pemberton , Marsh Green and such like . Huge credit to the Admin of all these sites , and all the posters . Anybody in the future wanting to see what buildings there were , what work we did , what tv we watched , what toys we had, foods and sweets we ate , one of these sites will show them . It’s wonderful to flick through page after page of these memories . Also those pictures you don’t remember the knowledge you gain and the links they take you to . Wonderful!
A huge Thank you to all who take the time and effort on each of these web sites and share them with all of us . Long may they continue .
Well said Dave.
Taking the pictures is a joy and easy in the hope they bring a bit of pleasure to folk.
The hard part is what both Brian and Ron do, I think they have been admirably committed to WW over the years and deserve a Gong.
You won’t get a hopscotch on a face clean as this ,
you won’t find a kneel on a door
or a back yard with pegs
or a gossip held said
with a pinny so true you can touch .,
Wigan (and Leigh) College is NOT a 'university'.
I far prefered the aesthetics of old tech building, now Town Hall. (Good photo of it in today's MEN)
