Another lovely photo of Standish bringing all good memories back,I forgot on my post to wish you and Maria all the best for the new year, also a thought did Maria have a family of her own,me and my wife had three sons all grown up now.
I'm a stranger to St Wilfred's church, but this photo is beautiful Colin, and would make a beautiful Christmas card for anyone.
Wishing all viewers and contributors a Very Happy Christmas and a sincere hope that the New Year will be a good one especially to those who have been recently unwell or have suffered bereavement this year.
Much love to all, Colin.
Hope you like the picture?
Thanks for this wonderful picture Colin . Just glorious .
The tree looks magical contrasting with the stark skeletal ones in the churchyard . The light on the church . The lamp . The gothic windows and stained glass , and the owl perched atop the spire gazing on the night sky .
Superb .
St Wilfrid’s.
You've said it all Poet. Beautiful church and it looks very welcoming. Thank you Colin for such an uplifting photo. Best wishes to everyone for Christmas and that hopefully 2024 will bring good health, happiness and a more peaceful world. Nadolig llawen!
Quick! Put some money in the Spire Appeal - it looks as if it will fall over imminently!
I'm not keen on coloured lights on Christmas tree's.
Eddie, Merry Christmas. I will pass on your best wishes to Maria. I did message her about you, and she did remember you. We will have a chat about it on Sunday. Maria has a grown up son and daughter. Do you still live in Standish.
Great picture, looks like a painting
That is the most beautiful photo of St. Wilfrid's Church I have ever seen.....it's absolutely haunting and the Christmas Tree looks lovely. A few people mentioned some weeks ago that it would be nice if I sent a photo of my own 1950s/60s Christmas Tree to p-a-d at Christmas this year but I'm afraid I'm not up to dressing the tree this year, and Peter admits he would make a Pig's Ear of it!! I am at least downstairs now after six days in bed and can access my Laptop again and join in the comments, so am just catching up on what I've missed.
Irene sweetheart, could not have got your Peter to carry your laptop up to your bedroom.
Yes that's a very good idea Rev David, let's see how much we can get from Wiganworld PAD viewers. .
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened my iPad and saw this lovely photo. I’m up late this morning and every morning this week all I can say is it looks magical around St Wifrid’s .
Nice to see you back Irene. A very Merry Christmas to all.
A great capture Colin with brilliant colours. Maybe the Church could include it on next years calendar. Nice to hear from you Irene, sorry you’ve been bed bound recently. Have a great Christmas. WN1
A beautiful photo of Christmas.
Welcome back Irene. We can't wait to see your Christmas photo of your 1940s Christmas tree and decorations. (You promised)
Thankyou all for the kind comments and Irene I'm glad that you are up out of bed, by the sound of it you have had a bit of a rough time. Now that you are up, keep on tapping at your keyboard.
Maureen, perhaps you have sewn a seed, maybe Rev Long and I can get together to to create a Christmas Card for next year to raise the much needed funds to correct the Leaning Tower of Standish!!!
I know I promised, Alan, but we never know what's round the corner and I'm afraid I'm just not up to dressing the tree this year. Colin, that scene would make a lovely Christmas Card; I would certainly buy some.
Colin,it would make a beautiful Christmas card, and it could be printed out then have it framed,I'm sure that would bring some coppers in...I for one keep going back to the photo to have another look.
I had a cataract op the other week and I'm sure that it's helping with the healing process.

I agree Maureen if a calendar was produced this would look beautiful for the month of December.
I hope your eye is soon better and seeing things as they really are….
I too agree, a superb photo Colin. Glad to hear you're up and about Irene and that you soon recuperate fully.
Tom, Peter DID offer to bring the laptop up to the bedroom but I'm afraid I just wasn't up to concentrating on things or to typing. Thanks for all your good wishes, everyone. Like Maureen, I keep going back for another look at today's photo....it's like a magnet!
Colin you've got talent, this is an absolutely beautiful photo of outstanding quality and very much fitting at Christmas time.
Doubles sherry for you, cheers.
I a bit behind the times this morning, so its all been said really.
Colin, that is one very atmospheric image you captured. Happy Christmas !

Colin , something quite extraordinary about your wonderful picture . I was looking at it just after 12 last night and couldn’t stop looking at it . Like many have said calendar , postcards , other cards , you name it. Take a bow sir !
Thank you .Veronica..I should be having the other one done in a few weeks,at the moment anything that's white has a blue tinge and walking in sunlight can be dangerous I cant see a thing...but never mind Gods good..glad you're on your, feet
Irene ..

Thanks once again for your post Kath,
Just to let you know Kath I didn't come from standish even though all my friends where standish lads,I was a wigan lad but I always loved standish and still do.
Colin, thank you for such a beautiful photo.
As in Wilfred Hyde-White
That looks fantastic.
Hope you improve quickly Irene and that you have your op soon Maureen. Have had both mine done and still marvelling at the brightness of colours and not needing glasses for driving etc. All the very best to you both, x
Even in archive, amongst others , it just looks like a delicious postcard and stands out !
This photo has gone on the other site! No credit as usual. Amongst others ie The Oldest Shoe Shop from the other day. And the Mayflower photo. Blatant Cheek.
This has just been put on facebook, and I have made a point of saying that it is today's "photo-a-day" on Wigan World and is the work of Mr. Colin Traynor. The person who pinches these photos daily NEVER acknowledges the photographer and it makes my blood boil! He just takes all the credit for himself!
Veronica, and Irene ..keep putting the word out and he might just get fed up.The cheeky beggar.
Thank you Pat, you’re very kind.x
