Life
Hmm....I don't know what to say but impressions or not good.
I’ll give the Lego 50 years no more, it already looks temporary and the old will still be standing (if it’s left alone).
Brian, at this picture had me baffled and did not even recognise the building. Then I realised that it is the Life Centre, which I think of as The New Bath’s taken from Harrogate Street near the Premier Inn.
A glimpse of the Museum and former Christian Meeting House to the Left and the back of The old Westwood Estate Office (Franco’s) all on Rodney Street.
Does any one think the brick box known has the life centre will be around in 30 yrs time ?
gob smacked the face off wigan should be on that car park might brighten the place up lol
As a ‘New Build’ architecturally speaking there are many worse buildings around the town.
Who would like to start the list?
In my opinion it's an idiotic design, we've lost so much brilliant historical buildings demolished by miss guided people.
A ludicrous building, there was nothing wrong with Wigan Baths and looked so much better.
Had another think & I now wonder why the ' Powers that be' want a Museum of Wigan & a Life Centre...they are doing there best to be shot of all the history that made the town what it used to be....its an awful building to boot !
Maybe it would look nicer clad in ornate Terracotta or Mock Tudor?
Historical buildings were designed by architects, and draftsmen, they use intelligence and skills to design buildings.
The Museum of Wigan life would almost certainly have been designed by computers and not the human touch. That's the big difference.
I worked at the accountancy firm of L A Pardey & Co in the 70s and 80s - (later Franco's restaurant) - to the left of the 'museum'. In those days the Mayoral Parlour was next door and Wigan Library directly opposite, looking up towards Library Street. A bustling part of Wigan.
Never happen in Standish
My God what coat
what cod of hope
my goodness that
what fool what prat
could even think
with pause or blink
anything even
falsely deceiving
Fool with fund
stolen beyond
on such historic place
could even dream
held passion gleamed
but fail
coz
Could never happen in Standish
Bah Humbug!
When did the museum move into the new building? i loved it in the beautiful traditional building.
This photo could be of interest to historians in the future. An example of a soul less, neglected northern town in the early 21st century. Absolutely appalling!
The Museum is in the old (better) building Phil.
Whoever Ebenezer is, with the Bah Humbug comment, it isn't me, I was ill in bed all day yesterday and didn't go on p-a-d.
Hope you are soon better Irene, I miss your comments along with others who don’t comment as much.
Never mind owd Ebenezer we all know what happened with him.
