If that machine could be personified, with its head on the floor and its air of having given up hope, it's almost a symbol of despair. It looks as if it's in disbelief at what is happening, a bit like the rest of us.

It does look rather desolate but not chaotic …as if the workmen have left - but they know what they’re about even if we don’t! In other words they’ve left it ‘tidy’ …
