Poolstock Lane
Photo: Mike Lavin (iPhone)
This is how it should be for the likes of Tomplum who should have the peace and quiet.
Thats a lovely blue sky & feels like it was an early morning Mike, no traffic down below.
Just a comment re Kings Lynn yesterday....
Dennis that would have been the National Construction College you were at in Bircham Newton....its still there. We drive through when going that way. It was an Air Force Base in the war & some of the old buildings are still in situ.
A nice photo; I like the cloud formations. Not an area of Wigan I am familiar with but we have to go to a health centre in Poolstock Lane next week for our covid vaccines, which doesn't make sense when we live in Abram and there is a health centre in Platt Bridge. The reasoning behind that is beyond me!
Not somewhere I recognise nowadays. A nice crisp photo shame about those zig zags signs that make the road look untidy.
A position where the Pemberton loop line bridge once resided.
Helen, it was winter when we went to Bircham Newton. When we arrived there was a howling gale blowing…. And it was still blowing when we left one week later!
Has you say it was originally an Airfield and judging by the wind I doubt if they needed any engines to get off the ground.
The food and accommodation was good and I imagine that in summer it would be a great place to visit, but in winter one week seemed more like a month!
The howling gale sound about right for Nth Norfolk Dennis & the saying here goes....if its in the East, its here for 3 weeks. We do have icy winds here that make your cheeks ache & sales of padded coats must shot up when they came into vogue, seems everyone owns one !
Lovely clear picture.
Irene I sympathise with your comment on travel for a vaccine, we live a one minute walk from Standish Medical Practice but where are they sending my wife for hers, Robin Park which takes two bus journeys to get there!!!!
Travelled through Poolstock daily for many years on the way to work, but can't quite pinpoint this. Is that Poolstock church in the distance or the Parish Church please? My covid journey this week was a round trip of 30 miles, even though our Health Centre is 5 miles away. Doesn't make much sense.
Veronica - they had to resort to putting those zig-zag lines each side of pedestrian crossings because motorists refused to respect the No Parking rules associated with crossings.
Pat McC - Yes, it's St James with St Thomas you can see. So far not threatened with closure.
Colin - the 640/ 641 buses from Standish go to Sherwood Crescent, Kitt Green - we've had our past two Covid jabs at the Clinic there. It's a long scenic route, however.
Re Covid vaccinations,if you live nearest to Wigan town centre just ring Hollyrood Chemist in Mesnes Street and you can make an appointment there..no problem.
That is St James church at Poolstock. The Tippings is just behind the flyover.
That's Worsley Mesnes Drive on the left hand side.
I got a text telling me to book a covid test but i ignored it.The next day i was walking through st johns arcade in preston and there a the chemist at the bottom was a sign.Covid jabs being done here no appointment necessary.I walked in and had it done there and then
Mike are you standing on the racetrack flyover?
Veronica took the missus for the COVID jab today as mine was for the 21st October but no queues at all and got mine done to (Peter House) totally different to last time.
Thanks Dave. I can see where I am now. Our first home was a 'maisonette' in Worsley Mesnes.
My jabs are for next Saturday John. An improvement on mid December!
I see what you mean Reverend… further down the road they seem to have room for parking..
The first houses don’t seem to have room at all for cars.
There's room round the back for cars Veronica.
I see Arthur thanks…they are very nice houses anyway.
20mph speed limit. Absolutely stupid. Do they think we still ride around in Morris Minors and the like? Modern cars have multitudes of safety devices, etc, yet the ivory towered "masters" in Wigan council and their "chums" in Manchester want cars to go slower! It doesn't make sense and it will end up taking us backwards instead of forwards.
The parking layby was constructed when the road was narrowed.
