Vandalised
Watch out for someone building a canoe out of tree bark
Vandalism at Shevington....never.
I Can't belive this happened in Shevy, we have the best community in Wigan. But the picture doesn't lie and I'm sadend to see this.
Thanks Mick but what a shame. That beautiful tree will likely die now. Squirrels had a munch on the bark of my ceanothus last winter probably due to hunger, and it's lost some branches as a result, but this is just mindless. Why would anyone do such a thing I wonder.
Whatever possessed anybody to do that to a beautiful tree, let’s hope they spend the rest of their lives regretting being an idiot..words really fail me.
What warped & vile mind would do such a thing ?
The tree will die without its bark covering.
I thought this was shangri la and every thing was sweetness and light in Shevy. Unfortunately the village like anywhere else has its idiots. If they have debarked the tree all the way round then it may die because some trees get their water through the bark and in effect they have cut off the trees supply . Its the back end of the school holidays and boredom has set in a lot of the kids have not had any form of vacation away this year and have been kicking their heels for 5/6 weeks
That’s awful…it’s on a par with skinning an animal. I wonder if something can be done to protect it. There must be an expert who can advise. I can’t believe this has happened. The Parish Committee MUST come up with an answer that’s what they are there for. It’s very sad and I really mean that. I hope it doesn’t have to be chopped down.
(By the way what’s that figure doing sitting on a trunk? )
I have to say I love those Accrington brick terraced houses. Reminds me of my last house loads of room for families. Very smart with a nice outlook.
Mick, have they found out who was responsible yet, I know one of the volunteer gardens was asking for residents' door cam footage.
It's getting bad this cost of living crisis in Shevy, they're chopping trees now for firewood.
It's not you is it Garry?
I didn't know you have Tigers in Shevington Mick.
Like you always say, Shevington is
different than the rest of Wigan.
We all kicked our heels for six weeks back in the school holidays in the sixties; few families went away for a week back then and our "holiday" was half a day at Southport. We had no such things as x-boxes and computers, and spent most of our time playing out, but 90% of children wouldn't have dreamed of doing this. Sadly, though, even back then there were vandals....there always have been and always will be. Small things amuse small minds.
Hope they catch the culprit because someone is walking around with a serious knife on them.
PeterP.....VACATION ????
What are we coming to in this country ? HOLIDAYS are what we have here !
(Its ok...only ribbing you, I think I'm quite a nice human being really ...hopefully ! )
No not guilty, Alan.
I hope him, her, them are seen on camera.
Quote"Its the back end of the school holidays and boredom has set in a lot of the kids have not had any form of vacation away this year and have been kicking their heels for 5/6 weeks" Oh dear..What a shame.!!!! Peter P What a PRAT you are.. Another leftie, liberal, . my kids can do no wrong..do gooder.
What a thing to say Scaramouch! We all know when the school holidays are coming to an end the older kids do get bored. Where I live some kids have gone around at 12 00 at night scratching cars and smashing the windows of the cars. Where are their parents at that time? How would you like to wake up to that? I am pleased to say some of the evil scoundrels have been caught. I hope the parents are fined heavily. It’s a good hiding they need not a tap on the wrist.
Veronica ??? Where have I exonerated their behaviour? I am berating what Peter P posted making excuses for the vandalism
If there was ever a case for bringing back the BIRCH this is it..
We used to get five weeks school holiday and I can never remember being bored.Even though I did not mind school I hated going back.
Joan, one of the cameras picked up a group of teenagers all wearing hooded jumpers getting off the Gathurst Standish circular bus, so if it was them they could have boarded the bus in Wigan, Pem council estates, or Orrell.
I don’t think for one minute Peter P was making excuses Scaramouch …that’s not how he has come across to me. Apologies if I’m wrong but I don’t see his words meaning as an excuse..far from it unless he’s being sarcastic.
We used to catch the train from Ince to Parbold Station and walk to Newbrough farm and go strawberry and pea picking on our school Summer holidays. We as friends left school age 15 and never ever got bored and caused vandalism.
Great times, happy times.
Hanging's too good for them!
Veronica, if what he(Peter P) said isn't an excuse what is it??? It dosen't come across as sarcasm?
The hooded gang could have been coming home after a day out. Surely they’re not boarding a bus just to peel bark of a tree in Shangri La.
Scaramouch perhaps only Peter P knows what he means. I have apologised to you anyway so no hard feelings.
This is not vandalism! This is change I am unable to cope with - from place and time I knew , and even more my inability to cope with the absolute fact that my downhill is far less beautiful than the vision I viewed , held , loved and treasured in my climb ., which within my hold
is such a safe bed and such a glowing coal fire ..
Garry,I also used to go pea picking in the School holidays..there's no joy at all in getting up to mischief..it just wasn't in kids then to vandalise anything.
Wonder if they even know that these trees support our very existence.
Bring back national service.
You see vandalism everyday, how many times have we seen bus shelter windows smashed.
The real problem is Where is our Police patrols......
e , I was wondering if you could possibly word any fer fer fer future posts using language that can ber ber be readily understood by those amongst us who aren’t already high on mer mer magic mushrooms or toxic emissions from the ser ser solid fuel ber ber burning stoves on our ner ner narrowboats. Ther thanking you in anticipation.
Ger ger Granville.
What a shame for that to happen to such a beautiful tree, it'll have brought nothing but gladness to so many folks over the many years its been growing there, and it does look to be far too extensive for the tree to survive and like others I agree it will most likely be cut down.
