Photo-a-Day (Tuesday, 8th August, 2023)
One Man And His Dog
Now this photo takes me back to Boxing day 2015, it was a dark wet afternoon and I was out on patrol in the Douglas valley area, when to my surprise the mighty river Douglas came over the top of the dam.
I whipped out my little camera and caught the water tumbling over the top of the dam, this has never happened since so what I captured will go down in the history of Wigan floods.
You can see the video I made on YouTube by copying and pasting this link.

"England's Green and Pleasant Land". Lovely photo and I can relate to it at the moment as we have our son's two little dogs Wilson and Rudy here for two weeks as the family is on holiday, so we are dog-walking daily. I keep telling myself the exercise is doing me good! That's a lovely scene with the fresh green of the grass and trees, and the water. It's probably an illusion but the water appears to be rushing by.
I remember that day. I live quite near to the dam, and I heard it overflow, sounded like thunder.
Just watched your video Mick. Credit where it’s due, you certainly caught a moment in time there.
It looks nice and peaceful in the photo. I don’t like the dam which spoiled the area I remember though. I think it ruined what was a great beauty spot away from the traffic and built up areas only yards away.
I managed to highlight Mick's link in blue but have no idea how to "paste". However, there was a link straight to Youtube without "pasting" and I've managed it. Very proud of myself! I am useless with technology and have to ask my grandson for help.....the young ones just seem to grasp it all so easily, even young children. Anyway, I did it today.....give the lady a coconut!
Irene - assuming you're on a laptop or computer, click the right mouse button on where it is blue when you've highlighted it and select 'copy' (you can also use the keyboard shortcut of holding down the ctrl key and pressing 'c').
This will copy it to the clipboard so that it can be pasted, in this case clear everything out of the address bar and right click and select paste (alternatively hold ctrl key and hit 'v') and then hit the enter/return key to go to the pasted website
Wigan Council missed an opportunity to build a road along here from Central Park Way to Great Acre, which is recognised as being an ideal route for a road by many motorists travelling daily into or out of Wigan using Whelley and Aspull, they believe it would help alleviate traffic snarl ups.
Thankyou so much, T....how kind of you to explain it to me....I will give that a try.
