Is that a tree growing out of the roof?

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 6th August 2023 at 07:24

Now that's a very good looking building. Lets hope nobody messes about with it.

I've been to a few wedding receptions at Ince Public Hall , (same building as Ince Council Offices), although many years ago now, and Ince Clinic used to be just further down, next to where the house is on the photo..... we children in the late 1950s and early 1960s went there for polio vaccinations and the dreaded School Dentist. There was ANOTHER little railway station, besides the one on yesterday's P-A-D, just past the Council Offices and the clinic; trains from there used to go to places like Lowton and Irlam; it was much-used by the men who worked at Irlam Steel Works.
I can recall walking in a "crocodile" from Ince Central school to the Parish Church, (just before the Council Offices but out of sight on the photo), for Ascension Day Services, Harvest Festival and Carol Services. So many memories of Ince Green Lane, where I was born. Thankyou Dennis.

Little Gigges Private Day Nursery these days Dennis and not Council Offices. What a beautiful building though, like many Council Offices, they are very well built with fantastic architect designs.

Known locally as Ince Town Hall, Ince Public Hall. Now defunct but what a building, a listed building which is great, we've lost far to many great buildings over the past few years without any respect to them.

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 6th August 2023 at 09:08

Quite a few buildings in and around Wigan have trees growing on them PeterP.

Comment by: Garry on 6th August 2023 at 10:07

Veronica before you say owt about my spelling.
It should have said Giggles Private Day Nursery x

Now this photo takes me back to when I got banned from driving, it would have been in 1971, I had just returned to Wigan after working in the Saudi section of the Red Sea, so I was very thirsty, so me and my mates went  on a pub crawl and ended up in the Manhattan club in Ashton.
I got pulled up for being drunk driving and had to go to court, but Wigan courts at that time had the decorators in, and we're closed so they were using Ince town hall.
Magistrate said to me one year ban and £45 fine, so I just took out the money to pay him, but he said no no no you don't pay me go outside and pay the clerk so I did.
The ban didn't bother me because the week after I flew out to Tehran to work in the Persian Gulf
Yes Irene it was  Ince Junction, the street is called  Junction st. and it's where our Lizzie in Aussie  a WW member grandparents used to live, I go down Junction st a lot when I'm out on patrol around the Amberswood lake area.

Very similar to the ‘town hall’ near me. But is it a town hall?. Ours combines the library and various groups use it …but Council business a no no these days. Everything goes through Bolton Town Hall. There are plans being put forward for various venues but not a place to complain or pay the rates! Even the Town Hall clock is never right. As long as this building is used for the community that is a good thing. It looks in good repair ….

I never gave it a thought Garry I think it’s a quite original that name for the little tots! Apart from the ones who don’t like their mum leaving them that is… boohoo! Aw! It’s a bit early for sherry Garry have one later.. ;o))

Hello, I am one of Ann’s neighbours.
She isn’t very well at the moment I come in most days another neighbour does the same.
She says a few people have been asking about her.
She says she still looks at this site but can’t write anything. Anyway she says thank you all.
I’m not very good at doing this site hope it’s alright.

Mick, the street you mention is actually called Junction Terrace. Veronica, Ince Council Offices IS a beautiful building but I don't think much goes on in there now, which is such a shame. It was always known as Ince Public Hall when I was a child and was used a lot for dances and wedding receptions, and was also where Ince people paid their rent and rates.

Comment by: Cyril on 6th August 2023 at 12:25

Veronica, The One Who Got Away, the film you and others commented on is actually on TPTV now, if you aren't viewing it, you'll be to catch up with it on ENCORE via the red button. These district town halls haven't been properly maintained for over 50 years with some being demolished, whilst the old technical college now being Wigan town hall has had millions spent on it, is it any wonder folks around the districts have a gripe about it. The road further down is Junction Terrace, and they must have been heavy sleepers with a busy rail track almost on their doorstep, I'd imagine the windows rattling and houses shaking whenever a train went past.

Mick, I've no sympathy at all for drunk drivers they're a menace on the road, and I've heard of other oilmen from that era who have done the same thing, you should have been fined twice the maximum with a three year ban and your passport relinquished for 12 months, or even thrown in jail for 12 months, that would have been enough to have wiped the smug, drunken drivers getting away with it grin, from anyone's face.

Never too early or too late for a sherry, Veronica. Cheers.

Comment by: Ruth on 6th August 2023 at 12:56

Hope you’ll feel better soon Anne.
Many weddings and celebration held here as well as official council business.
Still looks a substantial building.

Comment by: Veronica on 6th August 2023 at 13:32

I have actually put a ring around it Cyril thanks.
Cheers Garry hic - hic. x
Get well soon Anne. I thought I hadn’t seen any posts from you. x

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 6th August 2023 at 13:59

I am sorry to hear Anne is unwell and hope she is soon feeling better.
I agree with Garry about the sherry!

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 6th August 2023 at 15:42

Yes Irene you are correct it is Junction Terrace.
Cyril, it was a different world back then.
Irene love, I'm sorry your having leg trouble, Ive been the same for a few years now so Ive bought my self a mobility scooter, I will be seeing the surgeon/anesthetist at Wrightington 2 weeks tomorrow, for 4 hours of test prior to my knee replacement operation.

Comment by: Alan on 6th August 2023 at 16:18

Drinking and driving you should be ashamed of yourself, and not try and boost about it.
I know now why people call you an idiot on the site.

Comment by: Arthur on 6th August 2023 at 16:30

That Mick as no respect and no consequences about people's lifes. Drink drivers should spent ten years in prison.

Comment by: Sandra on 6th August 2023 at 16:43

You should be ashamed of yourself Mick. Drinking and driving destroys lifes and families. No time for people like you even if it was back 1971.

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 6th August 2023 at 17:18

Its not boasting at all its just what comes to mind when I see this building.

Comment by: Malc on 6th August 2023 at 17:41

Boasting Alan that's the word.
And I agree, stupid people drink and drive.

Comment by: Veronica on 6th August 2023 at 17:46

So can we expect a big horn fitted on the mobility scooter Mick when you drive down the tow paths …oh! and a flag on a pole? I’ve seen some of those scooters fitted with see through plastic hoods and covers.…you’ll still be able to take photos but the Mallards will see you coming.

Comment by: Malc on 6th August 2023 at 20:00

I think Veronica been at Garry's Sherry.lol

Comment by: Veronica on 6th August 2023 at 21:08
