Mechanical Plod
The sign behind says “We are with you” (Nothing to do with the Police) mmmm. Except when they are supping tay in their steel reinforced castle across the road from Robin Park.
I’m not sure whether all that security is meant to keep the terrorists out or them in!

You never get a response from the so called police, I know they have received calls from people witnessing burglary but never turn up, very sad I know but no wonder people take law into their own hands, crime is on the rise in Wigan and surrounding districts because criminals know there is no police available, something needs to be done and done now. Thanks for pic Dennis.
This has reminded me of a funny story .......
Quite a few years ago, a friend of mine was manager of the NatWest, in Ashton. That's when banks had proper managers, who could do sums and do business and stuff. Not like now.
Anyroadup, Albert (that's his name) had been to the St.Thomas's Church Hall, on Warrington Road in Ashton, to an Ashton and Haydock Rotary meeting, with my neighbour, Stan.
So, on his way home he turned down Gerard Street and saw a police car parked outside his bank, so he pulled up and asked the officer what was wrong?
The officer asked who he was and Albert told him, "I'm the manager of this bank", so the policve officer said, "We've had a report of someone seen climbing over the gates at the side of the bank".
So, Albert says, "I've gotr the keys on me, if you want I'll open up and you can check inside".
Well, the officer took his hat off and put it on the dashboard of his police car, then followed Albert into the bank.
After a good look round, nothing was found out of place so they left through the front door.
While Albert was locking up, he heard the police officer shout "bloody hell fire"!
When the officer had returned to his car, somebody had been in it and stolen his police hat, from on the dashboard, while he'd been inside the bank!
Couldn't have happened to a nicer chap. And I often wonder if that officer was Billinge Biker, also off Wigan World?
Well what ever is happening with the Police scandals, I still have respect for them. They are the first people you call if you get burgled or troubled. With any large arrgonisation you'll always get some who abuse their position and lose public trust, they are now being routed out.
The vest majority of the Police are
good officers and hopefully they'll get even better.
Using a space saver tyre will limit its speed to 50 MPH not much use to get anywhere fast. Probably better off parked on Standishgate he/she may deter some of our local reprobates.
I bet it's those two policemen out of Last of the Summer Wine who are always parked up somewhere, supping tea out of a flask and eating butties.....I love those two!
When I see the police cars outside stores it makes me think of ‘shop lifters’. However the police don’t attend burglaries these days so I’m sure they don’t attend for that crime. There must be more than ever shoplifting these days with the price of everything going up so much…. Reminds me of helping to apprehend a shoplifter one day in Marks. There was four of us holding a big lad down on the floor until the police came. I was sat on one leg trying to take his shoe off!….. many years ago - I couldn’t do it now! ;o))
We rarely see the police here. A few years ago they sold off the local police station for building & built a brand new station in Cromer...only thing is it is not open to the public. Nearest station the public can access is in a town 40mins from here.
Mind you I do think the police are called on for issues that are not really a policing matter these days.
Good photo Dennis...it makes you think......
Now now Dennis show respect to the Police. "We all sup tay."
The Police need to get the public trust back, most officers are good at policing, but because of a small minority of bad coppers they all get tarnished with the same brush.....sadly.
But end of the day we all need them.
If that was a London Police car it would have all its hub caps.
A lot of law abiding folk will be glad our Police are well protected if things do go wrong, it's the same as the territorial army base in Woodhouse lane, this building will be used as a council/government headquarters.
Police cars traditionally have no hub caps due to them coming of chasing the local rouges etc
It's not a space saver wheel PeterP, it's simply lost it's wheel trim.
If that car was in London Mick, it would probably be in a container on its way to the Middle East.
The Police don't care about the public Mick, they pay lip service to the public because they need the money that we provide to pay for their early retirement.
I was brought up to respect the Police, but all that came to an end in the 1980s when the police as an organization sold their soul to Maggie Thatcher during the Miners Strike.
They were a corrupt organization then and I have seen nothing from them since then that would change that opinion.
With the police it's always them first, Politicians next followed by big business and the public way down the list.
The police are a complete waste of time and have been for years.
The sentences are even worse ! No wonder they reoffend.
In my experience, people who don't like the Police is those who have had "run-ins" with them....in other words, known to the Police.
I am of the same sentiment as DTease. Always respected the police until the miners strike in 1984. Lost respect for them with that and has got even worse over the last 40 years. The 2 worst examples since then have probably been their handling of the Hillsborough disaster and the shooting of Charles de Mendes. With the former they dissed the Liverpool supporters and with the latter they claimed an honest, legal worker going to work was an illegal immigrant. As though that made it ok to kill him. This is before even mentioning the investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence. The list goes on. IMHO parading about on horses or parking a police car in the middle of Wigan is insufficient.
Mark, I have never had a “run-in” with the police in my life, not so much as a parking ticket and I have been driving for over fifty years.
I agree with Mark hole heartedly.
The Police only took orders in the Miners strike from Maggie Thatcher. And what a waste of time that was, no pits today.
The Police loved the overtime though.
Mark, that's the Courts fault and not the Police.
Veronica, what was you going to do if you had got his shoe off? Tickle his little tootsies until he surrendered?
I naively thought it would stop him running off Dtease….I was actually saying out loud “gerr his shoes off that’ll stop him”. Mind you another chap was leaning on him - I think the store detective had him in a strong hold as well. By the way he was in the ladies department, I thought that was a bit strange. The store detective actually asked for help. These days the ‘Scally wag’ would have contacted Human Rights and WE would have ended up in the clink.
Malc, the police also took a fifteen per cent pay rise from Maggie Thatcher as thanks for doing her dirty work. The judiciary got twenty per cent.
Both were supposed to be impartial and not take orders from Politicians.
A few years ago my neighbour,an old lady had back door smashed by someone trying to break in.I heard it and chased them off.The old lady was distraught and asked me to phone the police who told me to deal with it.That’s my run in with the police Mark.Like I have said they are a complete waste of time
Pw, and did you deal with it......
If you did, good man, your a neighbourhood watch man, well done.
