Flower Baskets
" welcome to Lancashire " , I didn't know Appley Bridge bordered on another county. Nice clear pic Mick.
What a poor picture.
The flowers are in full bloom now, Mick lots of walkers, boaters and cyclist are saying how pretty our village is looking.
Let's have some Summer snaps.
Birds, flowers trees.....
Derek the Calico Brook is the border, but if you turn left and cross the river Douglas bridge you will be in Merseyside
if that is best Appley Bridge is to be offering, any wonder then that walkers, boaters and cyclist carry on away out of place
photo lot better taken further back and metre or so to right
bridge was gifted to local council but they say we dont want it
... and travel a few miles until you cross the M58, Joan. Otherwise, you're in West Lancashire. Granted, there are quite a few ex-Scousers to be found in Skem, but it hasn't been annexed by Merseyside.
Thank you Joan, I've been away too long, I had forgotten that Merseyside was now a county itself.
Looks like a very pleasant walk under the bridge. Unusual to see delicate flower displays on a bridge.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Derek - " I had forgotten that Merseyside was now a county itself."
Merseyside was created along with Greater Manchester. It was created as a county and has never been anything else.
Joan, Merseyside is nowhere near Appley Bridge or the River Douglas. Liverpool, on the other hand, has a postal area which stretches north of Parbold and an ecclesiastical diocese which contains Wigan.
Appley Bridge is in the Liverpool area but not Merseyside.
To avoid confusion - Appley Bridge is actually in the Diocese of Blackburn, which likes to style itself as the Diocese of Lancashire - which is okay, except that the Dioceses of Manchester and Liverpool are both wholly within the historic County of Lancashire - and are both more populous than the Diocese of Blackburn.
What diocese is Wigan wholly in, Rev David?
Wigan Metropolitan Borough is not contained within a single Anglican Diocese - some is in Blackburn, some in Liverpool, and some in Manchester.
This is why I stopped going to church Rev.
Read my questiion again, Rev. David.
"What diocese is Wigan wholly in, Rev David?"
Where did I mention Wigan council? or Wigan Metropolitan Borough? Just Wigan.
Why the 'slippery eel', Rev.?
Liverpool/ Merseyside was much better under Lancashire, it even sounds better.
Wigan / Manchester was much better under Lancashire too.
Agreed Bruce Almighty.
