Early one morning...

The roads want resurfacing not patching up, it doesn't last. Maybe with the Councils Tax going up, it might get done, but I'm not holding my breath.
I think a man with a wheel barrow would have been sufficient to make that repair .
Patch a bit here and patch a bit there… how long will that last is the burning question…. Not long before another hole rears up!
Two lorries but only one worker to be seen. Council wasting our Tax money. (again).
The other workers probably sat in the cab on double time.
We are so lucky here in Wigan that we have a work force who will get up early to do these minor road repairs.
Did that really necessitate two lorries and a load of workmen? I've got a pair of socks with holes bigger than that.
Electric vehicles weigh far more and are making the pothole problem worse
I took another pic a few seconds earlier - one of the men asked not to be photographed - and moved behind his gaffer while I took this shot. As I've said - the crew were about to move off after finishing what they came to do (I won't say 'finishing the job' because you can see a couple of potholes which were left unfilled). I think they are sent to do a quick job at a difficult location - the traffic builds up quite early here, even on a Sunday - so they'd have caused a jam if they'd stayed much longer.
This section of School Lane was earmarked to be widened down to the lights on the A49, but that plan was unpopular and was thankfully dropped - they may have been waiting for that issue to be settled before making arrangements to resurface the road. I expect it will be a job which requires the road to be closed one Sunday - which they can't do at present because of the work they're doing at the Pepper Lane end of Preston Road, which has closed that road on a few Sundays recently. They can't close both roads on the same day.
I would think the pothole filling team will be out for the day, all over the Wigan area filling little potholes and big potholes, so yes it would necessitate two lorries.
The photos for the proposed training manual as WMBC havnt got one, nor have they had one for years.
I’m no engineer but it’s either the rotting foundations or the traffic is getting heavier! … or both..
I drive up School Lane every day, although i agree with all your comments except Mick's, (as per usual) i prefer it patched up than the hole that was there.
Roy , there was a traffic management lorry down the rocky road this morning . I don't know if they're having another go .
Hiya Dave, let's hope so, i'll be down there on Thursday.
Off the subject really...sorry David...but our son, a motor technician...yes thats what the term is in these enlightened times, not a mechanic, he is not a great fan of electric cars for various reasons. He told us of one make of electric car that had to be seen to , had to have the body of the car lifted off the chassis. The whole floor area of the vehicle was made up of lots of batteries....so the comment made earlier that electric vehicles are heavier would seem to be correct....& how are all these batteries going to be disposed of when the time comes....progress ??
Anyway its an interesting photo for PAD.
No it's not the rotting foundations are the traffic getting heavier, the cause of most Potholes is, drivers accelerating to quick , you see most Potholes just after bends in the road or from places where traffic is stopped
Of course damage is done by much heavier vehicles. They are building new houses near me and doing the groundwork. There are heavy lorries and tippers running all day and the road is ripped to shreds. Many roads were not built for the volume and type of traffic we now have on the roads.
I find this to be a very busy road at certain times of day, and if not timed right can be stuck in traffic either way. There looks to have been a large section of the road cut out from there for a previous patch up, and we all know what will happen if a new patch is sewn onto old clothes.
It was in Wigan Today I was reading about reporter Luke Marsden who had been assigned down to Colchester, and he was saying how smooth he found the pot hole free roads to be around Essex, and went on to say if folks from there were to come up here they would think they were driving along roads in a war torn country. Too true to.
The lad that ducked behind his boss in order to avoid having his photo taken probably did so for security reasons ….. eh?
….Social security reasons quite possibly .
