Strange to think quite a few of my family entered through that door. A good looking building. WMC must have thought it was worth saving for their Town Hall

It just shows the pared down simplicity of the next block down..Lego Land at it’s best. But it’s ‘progress’ at its worst.

what a contrast in the two buildings, one designed and crafted by true tradespeople the other designed in two minutes and thrown up

Comment by: Maureen on 16th January 2023 at 09:44

I would love to know how long it took to build this building compared to the newer one next to it.

Petunias in January . Must be global warming .

Great photo Mick. I assume that the Grayway coach, and the Finch,s
double deck bus have brought school children to the swimming baths.

Dick the Petunias are plastic, Wigan council are saving the council tax payer thousand of pounds by using these artificial plants.
They are also saving on contractors' charges who come around weekly to water the baskets and tubs.

I like that building, because it looks like a Town Hall, the old Town Hall which eventually fell down, looked like a Magistrate's Court, because that is what it was, they just shoved the Town Hall in there with it.

As regards the plastic petunias in winter, Mick took that picture on the 21st September 2022 at 2.35pm.

A lovely building but not a massive fan of the 'Town Hall' sign

At least a building wiganers can still be proud of, bet the council were itching to pull it down!

The flowers looked real to me

Comment by: Pru on 16th January 2023 at 17:40

The flowers are real, AA talking nonsense again.

Comment by: Maureen on 16th January 2023 at 19:52

They're definitely real...see the fallen petals on the floor.

Comment by: Cyril on 16th January 2023 at 20:08

The council had their own nursery off Ashfield Park Drive Standish, that grew plants and flowers for displays around the borough and parks etc. All this was closed for whatever reason and the land at the nursery at Standish sold for housing, the council now employ Moss Bank Nurseries to plant up and maintain flower displays and containers around the borough and in the public parks, halls and shopping centres, so why would they use artificial flowers in their displays, it wouldn't make sense for them to risk losing what will be a very lucrative contract.

They should put a clock on the front of there and it would be just like the town hall in Trumpton. Anyone remember the fire brigade members - Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, and Mick Byrne, though when Mick got his whistle he left and was replaced with Grubb.

At 17 years of age Cyril I was a member of Wigan (AFS) Auxiliary Fire Brigade and we used to go out putting fires out all over Wigan on Tuesdays and Thursday nights, but our crew was nothing like the ones you was sat watching on children telly, ours was more like the home guard Dad's Army gang.
