Photo-a-Day (Monday, 9th January, 2023)
Platt Lane
A good picture Dennis showing the quiet path down to the two smaller Worthington lakes .
We used to go spud picking in the field on the right . Absolutely nothing has changed in 50 years ( except that I couldn't do the spud bashing anymore) .
Serious graft that .
What a lovely photo; just trees, a quiet path and a lovely view, timeless and unchanged. Beautiful, Dennis.
I used to go to school with Andrew Gill the farmers son but never picked any of his spuds, all my spud picking was done around Appley Bridge.
I love the bare trees of Winter, they have such interesting shapes. I would rather paint those than the leafy ones in summer.
A breath of fresh air this photo.Makes you feel like going for a walk.
Spud picking , that takes me back to when I was a12 yr old in Holland Moor. My friend Jean Gaskell was going spud picking at a farm up Chequer Lane & it sounded good pocket money to me, so I went with her. I lasted one day & never went again !
Helen, I went bean-picking at Rainford when I was ten and I even remember what I earned....6/3d.. Happy days!
I loved going to pea picking, and made some good money, went to all different farms, one of the farms we were approaching when the farmer opened his bedroom window and choked us off for waking him up at 5-30..so has to go elsewhere ,tired potato picking, too bad on the back, again the same with strawberry picking..I loved it..out in the fresh air all day and of course made quite a bit of pocket money.
This iPad is a nuisance at times..I always check my spellings before posting them, but alas the damn thing has a mind of its own..
Waft away from my head ,
Upon the wind, to earthly bed,
where I'll sleep , til I wake ,
on new tree , the sun will make ,
there I'll watch a new dawn break,
change my colour for Autumn sake ,
then feel the rain and falling snow ,
then waft away , on wind I know...
e...I just love your poems.
