Parallel Lines
What a wonderful image that is Mike & the title.
l like this picture . The steel spider's web in marked contrast to the sky where nature knows no straight lines and two blobs of signal red and a discarded orange rag to relieve the monochrome glow .
This is a fine example of real progress, with stepped junction points rather than cross-overs.
To the left, a mile back, in the 60s, there were acres of old sidings full of redundant trucks and wooden sided vans. They had sat there for years and as the sidings accumulated more stock, some of the older trucks near the buffer beams were rough shunted and began to disintegrate on the spot.
Good photo mike.
Stunning....
Only one word for it.
I love the way that the Winter sun, low in the sky, has lit the rails up so that they lead you deep into the scene. That’s a cracking photo Mike.
Is this the view from Taylor's Lane Bridge, or is it the line behind Ince Cemetery, please, Mike? Good photo.
A lot of Wiganers will cross over these parallel lines, but never see them, as they are taken on their final car ride to the crematorium.
Makes me think of holidays… in the distant months… sigh.
Cue for a Blondie song
Great picture like always Mike
Good photo Mike, brings back a lot of memories this, of when my brother in law used to take his son, and mine, to Springs Branch. He was a train driver. Bill Bootle.Thank you.
Either Mike had to wait or was just in time to catch the sun making this a wonderful picture.
Looks like Cemetery road bridge.
Edna, the name Bootle rings a bell. Did he live in Cheltenham ave. and have a son Freddie?
Brilliant picture.
No Anne, he didn't and his son wasn't Freddie.x
Thanks Edna x
Looking towards Platt bridge, was it a morning shot Mike.
The lines to the right Liverpool lime street from Wigan.
Far left slow lines and where the light is red at danger, is the site of the demolished Springs Branch signal box location. The lines in the centre is the main West Coast Main line from Scotland to London Euston.
Maybe it's quiet because they're all on strike.
Osy, there replacing the road side wooden barriers at the top of shevy lane, so there plenty of burnable timber going free.
Brilliantly caught!
WCML - it's probably before noon, but the direction is more South than morning-sun East. The line left of centre is the WCML to London - the one right of centre is the WCML to Scotland. It runs two ways..., whatever London thinks.
