Ellseys
Needs a paint job.
A malt vinegar factory in Wigan !!. So that is why there are so many Chip Shops there. !
I was told not to long ago that scientist are experimenting by putting salt in the vinegar bottles if if successful you will only need one bottle on the counter.
It might go under the name of salty vinegar .
Don't judge a book by its cover. The building looks less than appealing but I should imagine it is spotless inside.
More asetic than aesthetic .
Where is this Mick? I remember it being on the corner of Warrington Road and Little Lane.
I can't see the "salty vinegar" happening, Mick, as a lot of people, (including my husband), don't use salt for health reasons, (personally, I love salt and admit I have far too much!), so customers in the chippy need to be able to choose. My mouth is watering now, thinking of Bizzie Lizzie's Chippy in Skipton where we go regularly in Summer when we are at the caravan...but Green Lane Chippy in Leigh is also yummy....I feel a chip butty coming on! It's nice to see a Wigan firm on p-a-d.
I like the thought of our own little company’s producing foodstuffs like this-Instead of being imported . Such as cheese from France.
( although I do like a bit of French cheese now and again) It was the same with the Pickle works in W/H and not forgetting Uncle Joe’s Mintballs in Wigan. The list no longer goes on with a lot of things imported.
Bradshaws Girl if you go up Challenge way past Toyota /Ford car showrooms there is side road on the right this is where the vinigar factory is
Garlic? Vinegar? Garlic Vinegar?
Peterp I am sure it is spotless, but the outside is a bit shabby.
Thanks PeterP.
Bradshaws Girl, they now seem to be a world away from their Warrington Road days in the old whitewashed mill by Smithy Brook, see link below. Anyone remember their company slogan from then,
"No One Else's Tastes' Like Ellseys Pure Malt Vinegar."

You never see it in shops now, unless it's under own label names.
These vinegar experiments are good for children to do, especially growing crystals, we used to grow crystals on lumps of coal. https://sciencing.com/grow-borax-crystals-3866.html
If you are looking for a great chippy, try the Flounder in Blackrod. A bit off the beaten track but brilliant fish and chips, extremely well priced too.
Ive been to the Flounder a few times but always bought a Jacksons Rag Pudding to accompany my chips
Mr Jackson recently found out how his missus got the well used snotty rags he uses for hankies so clean and white, it was when he went along to the Flounder for pudding and chips and looked at the menu, he then realised and left with just the chips.
My Grandad worked at Ellseys for over 40 yrs at the old site on Warrington Rd. I used to visit regularly, Mr Ellsey was a fine Gentleman.
