Meadow Pit Lake
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX500)
A peaceful scene, Dennis. I thought it was Polly's Pond in Abram at first glance ; I imagine one fishing pond look much the same as the next one. It looks as if it's waiting for Spring, like the rest of us!
Used to be a cheap sport not any more. I see men pushing trolleys laden down with fishing tackle going to these man made lodges. A nice scenic shot of what looks like a tranquil lodge. Plenty of shelter with the trees just far enough back so line and hook does not get snagged.
Irene, Polly's Pond in Abram has a nice cycle track going all the way around it, https://youtu.be/GK8bR9tLvn0 and its not got a very busy noisy road running along side it like this one, but I can see why you are thinking that one fishing pond look much the the next one with you just been having your eyes done.
It looks a lonely place…but in Spring it will be a different picture I suppose.
I saw one young lad coming from a fisheries,I thought he had been on army manoeuvres, every thing he had on his cart was camouflaged even what he was wearing.
Yes, my long vision is brilliant now, Mick, after only two days.....I'll be able to see your house now! However, the procedure has taken my near- vision and I now need reading glasses to read your comments. As the busy main road you mention isn't shown on Dennis's photo, it still looks very much like Polly's Pond to me.
This lodge used to be the feed for the Meadow Pit boilers, you can still see the shaft in the farmyard.
I could be wrong, but I think this lake was man-made from scratch. It’s across the road from where the Steam Rallies used to be held.
My childhood days fishing at Pennington Flash…wading in where the brook entered at the SLag Lane…used to catch 100’s…we were 13/14
It is man made, the first time it was filled all the water drained away, it was sorted the next time and I was a member for the first two years.
How still the glass she breaks
Come crack the walk we make
the few who bind and weep ,
the leisure far too deep
that holds us in our souls
with each a perfect told
of one I had him there
my net of ready wear
but still she got away
the damn of spit we say,
we’ll meet again someday …
I bow to all who beat me!
Irene, I was only pointing out about the busy road because I know this area well, so I didn't want you to be recommending the place to any anglers that you might know.
As for seeing my house from this location I'm afraid you would be disappointed because the pond is in a bit of a dip, but if you went further along the road towards Standish and the sharp bend you would be able to.
