Too many signs and people switch off to them. Mick why don't you volunteer you only live a hop and a skip from the canal .

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 18th November 2022 at 07:17

Signs..& more signs. Does anyone count how many signs litter the place ? Try it you will be amazed !

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 18th November 2022 at 07:27

Ozy, re yesterday's pic, you omitted to mention...along with the exhaust fumes while savouring your pint of chemicals on the pavement...the occasional thunder of a train passing overhead !

Comment by: freddie on 18th November 2022 at 08:52

Mick, have you found a parallel world darn sarf that looks just like wigan?

Comment by: DTease on 18th November 2022 at 10:03

Helen, we don’t need to count all the signs, I’ve a nasty feeling that Mick is going to photograph them all for us!

Comment by: Abram Alice on 18th November 2022 at 10:09

This looks like the top lock, my friend's son is one of the volunteers who help canal boaters to navigate the Wigan locks.

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 18th November 2022 at 10:36

Teasy you seem full of nasty feeling, stop listening to the rabble.

Comment by: Poet on 18th November 2022 at 11:03

Signs here , instructions there ,
Help , advice , everywhere .
Don't drive through rivers when in flood !
This packet may contain peanuts !
Do this , do that ! Yes , No . Do not !
Caution ! Boiling water ! May be hot !
Walk don't run , keep to the left ,
Queue this side , never think yourself
O citizens , you are much too dense .
Only we have common sense .

Comment by: David Barker on 18th November 2022 at 11:13

To many sign's today, must be a sign of the times

Comment by: Veronica on 18th November 2022 at 12:06

Hark at the original ‘rabble’ rouser!
Carry on Dtease you bring sunshine to a dismal photo.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 18th November 2022 at 13:45

Yes, Veronica is right.
Mick why dont you try and photograph some of the beauty in the world for once ...you seem to be drawn to the ugliness for some reason.

Comment by: Marky on 18th November 2022 at 13:47

Mick , I watched four of your canal bank YouTubes today , far more enjoyable than this depressing one . Really enjoyed High Moor apart from that head the ball on the motorbike !

Comment by: DTease on 18th November 2022 at 13:48

That message to dogs translates as “ Please Keep your Mick On A Lead!”

Comment by: Pw on 18th November 2022 at 13:53

They all see useful and informative signs to me.

Comment by: Cyril on 18th November 2022 at 15:38

Attention dogs: Grrrrr, bark, woof.

To those at the Canal and River Trust, that is quite a rude thing to say, Prince says "and the same to you".

I loved a sign I saw recently on facebook. It was a recycling bin somewhere in Wigan and it said, "Plastic, Bottles and Cans Only" and someone had written underneath, "Nowt Else!"....it was just so "Wigan" and really tickled me!

Comment by: Pat McC on 18th November 2022 at 16:01

Exactly what I was thinking Helen - these signs are definitely an eyesore and littering the area, detracting from its natural beauty.

Comment by: PeterP on 18th November 2022 at 16:45

Freddie Mick did not move down south he changed his mind and still lives in Shevvy. Has to him not posting on the forum he made himself inactive because he posted some views more so about certain lady members on this site which did not go down well with some members and he was given some stick. A case of withdraw from the site or get punched off the site.

Comment by: . Ozy . on 18th November 2022 at 17:10

Haven’t seen any of Dennis’ photos on here for a few days . Hope I haven’t upset the lad .

Comment by: Marky on 18th November 2022 at 18:14

It would be a sad day if Mick , PP , is ‘punched off’ WW , simply because others don’t like his opinion .
That to me , can never be a true forum .

Comment by: John Noakes on 18th November 2022 at 18:28

Marky said, "I watched four of your canal bank YouTubes today , far more enjoyable than this depressing one . Really enjoyed High Moor apart from that head the ball on the motorbike !"

However, there is no canal bank near High Moor?

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 18th November 2022 at 18:40

PeterP non of what you say is true, I asked to be made inactive because the place had been taken over by soft kids.
And one of the soft kids put on a video of mine saying that I was videoing a dying motorbike rider, this wasn't true, what I was doing was videoing a doctor from Kendal trying to get a dead motorbike riders heart starting again.
I just left the camera running while me and the doctors wife helped the distressed teenage girl driver of the car involved out of her car, and search the back seat and boot to see if there was any babies or pets in the car.
A lot of the softies commented that it was disgusting what I did, but you can see this sort of stuff going on all the time on these 999 emergency TV programs

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 18th November 2022 at 18:48

Irene what you describe is vandalism, "Nowt Else!" just plain old fashioned vandalism, which will cost us tax payers money to have it removed. But I am glad it tickled you, the bin wasn't in the plantations was it ?

Comment by: Marky on 18th November 2022 at 19:32

John Noakes, I was just commenting on Mick’s videos which I enjoy greatly, having left Wigan in my 20’s. I have never even heard of High Moor!

Comment by: irene roberts on 18th November 2022 at 20:41

Compared with the filthy language I often see scrawled all over the place, "Nowt Else" was just a bit of Lancashire humour, and I see no reason for it to be removed. In fact it's what we all need at the moment....a bit of light-heartedness and fun. . I have no idea where the sign was, Mick, but it made me smile instead of turning my stomach with disgust as does some of the foul-mouthed graffiti I often see. . If I had a say in Wigan Council, I would make it compulsory and have it printed out properly! I'm sure it would bring a smile to people's faces and show our Lancashire sense of humour, of which I for one am very proud.

Comment by: John Noakes on 18th November 2022 at 22:02

" foul-mouthed graffiti "

eeeee, I 'ad t'laff.

Comment by: Wigan Mick on 18th November 2022 at 22:16

Yes you are correct Irene it would be funny if it was printed on by Wigan council,

Comment by: Cyril on 19th November 2022 at 00:55

John Noakes go and tell Shep to get down.

I agree with you Irene, it's a good humorous slogan to put on the recycling bins, there's a great amount of refuse having to go to landfill that should have gone for recycling, but with it being contaminated with items that shouldn't have been put in then has to go there, so anything that helps folks put items in the correct bins can only be advantageous.

Maybe if the Cleansing management sees this thread then 'Nowt Else!' maybe included on the recycling bins.

Comment by: irene roberts on 19th November 2022 at 08:38

Get down Shep!..My comment might not have been correctly worded but you knew what I meant. Glad it made you laugh, and I can't believe Mick has agreed with me on something!

Comment by: Veronica on 19th November 2022 at 11:56

Only IF it was the council Irene… not just any old wag…
