The Wrecking Ball Returns
They cant stop meddling! why cant they just add more shops and try and get more customers back. It does not need all this pathetic revamp, whos going to afford all these crazy things when the world already is in one big mess. All it needs is more normal shops adding. Its money unecessary spending when the money could have been put into something more important.
So inconvenient if you want to go in the market. A long trek the other day when I wanted to go to the Haberdashery stall, when I finally got there it had been stripped bare with just a few hours notice. Another trek to the Royal Arcade where I found a delightful little shop that sold everything that was sold on the Market stall. The chap in there used to be in the Market and told me he moved out when he knew what was going to happen. Plus the rent is much lower for him. I am so glad I found the shop it just enhances the Royal Arcade even more.
Soon the only people in Wigan town centre will be those sleeping in doorways or getting their daily methadone fix
I remember standing near here seeing the old Market Hall come down and the Galleries going up, I can't believe that it is all happening again.
This is a crime, whats happening here. The stallholders left in the Market Hall, Will not survive until 2023, with only 2 entrances left to get in.Most of the stalls are closing around 2.30pm.This has made them part time, but they are paying full rents!!
To parody an old song we all knew;
Where have all the real shops gone, long time passing?
Where have all the real shops gone. long time ago?
Where have all the real shops gone?
Gone to ebay, every one.
When will they ever learn?....when will they ever learn?
The only ‘consolation’ here is that those ‘new’ buildings could be knocked down in no time… the bricks used don’t have the substance that the old red bricks had made 100’s of years ago. Not that I’m in favour of them being pulled down.
The building at the top of a Library Street is beautiful and majestic. Is HRBC (Midland Bank) still in that building?
It is no longer a bank, Pat McC; I'm not sure what it is now. I think there was a cafe in there at one point. I'm sure someone will know. HRBC went into The Grand Arcade but I'm not even sure if it is still in there. Wigan isn't what it was but it does have some beautiful buildings.
The building now houses Boyles betting shop and HSBC is still in the Grunge Arcade.
Stop mourning you lot, its just like any other Town.
Had a close relative who worked at Midland Bank . Even though she made mistakes daily in her job , her manager kept her on because he said , the customers liked her and she was good for business . So you see , brains are really not that important , if you have charm and manner .
I thought Midland Bank was HSBC ?
Wigan is just being modernized.
Alan it’s nice to see you posting again but has somebody died? ( I don’t mean Wigan.)
An act of corporate vandalism. Scandalous.
