Ince Cemetery
why leave 2 derelict buildings in place, they need a death certificate
Quite a lot of my ancestors are in there as well as Wigan Cemetery. I remember looking for the graves about 20 years ago. I did find some but others I had to use my imagination as they were buried in ‘pauper’s graves’ like many others in the 19th Century.
I know those chapels are in a state but I would hate to see them demolished. They have been a part of the landscape all my life and it would seem odd without them. My friend's Auntie used to clean them many years ago when they were in use and she is now buried near one of them. She would be sad to see them now.
You would think the friends of Ince gardens and recreation grounds group would do something about it.
It is a pity these building are in a state, the two in Atherton cemetery look even worse. The one in Hindley cemetery is being renovated and looks good.Money must be a big problem.
Thanks for the comments, and Hindley cemetery is a credit to those who look after it, and when the chapel is finished it willbe even better.
Plenty of roofing tiles and bricks going spare at the Galleries, they could be fixed using those.
I can see my mother in laws grave on this photo. One of the black ones.
it isn't pc to refer to your mother in law's ethnicity
