Photo-a-Day (Friday, 29th July, 2022)
Canalside Artist
It’s hard to tell with this painting yet as the darks are being blocked in. It would be nice to see the end result. A few deft strokes towards the end ……and all will be revealed.
Not knowing anything abt art construction Veronica, your comment was very enlightening. I was able to see the shapes rather than a lot of brown. I vaguely remember art classes at school & being told to draw the 'spaces' first.
Any idea who she is Mick, would like to see the end result
That’s right Helen, she’s a brave girl doing that method.
Strangely, I heard my Dad singing the second I saw this photo....isn't it odd what a photo can do? It was the name of the boat, "Jeannie" that did it. . My Dad used to sing a song when I was a little girl..."I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair" and just for a second I saw his face and heard his voice. Helen, Veronica is a very good artist and I am lucky enough to have have some of her paintings.
double up a picture in a picture. two memories at once
I'd advise her not to give up her day job.
I can remember my Dad singing that song Irene. He also sang Waltzing Matilda which I never realise till years later was the name of my Grandmother who I never knew. This was usually happened on Sunday afternoon after a few pints in The Strangeways.Like you say funny what a photo can do.
And if you truly understand God’s message of Nature ,
then, you will soar !!
And no one , no matter how hard they try ,
Shall ever come close to your wings..

I doubt the lady would give up her day job, Bruce Almighty. She is probably on holiday from it or maybe even retired, and is just innocently pursuing her hobby, Good luck to her. She is doing no-one any harm. WHY do people have to be so rude?
Irene, are you sure it wasn't Hairy with the light blue jeans?
Well Done Irene , truth to a gold !
It might have been, Neil! It's good to hear from you!
Hi Mick, Did the London idea not work out for you ?
I’m interested because I live here and when I arrived it was an emotional earthquake to me , and still is ! The sheer wealth compared to my own Council house beginnings in Wigan .
It would be nice to share experiences on WW as our roots are the same . It really is like a different planet .
I too wish her luck with her quest, I admire folks who can draw and paint what they can see, I've tried but was doomed to stay in the remedial art class.
Sheer wealth in London? why then so many shop door dossers, beggars and soup kitchens/food banks, not to mention the everyday occurrence of muggings, stabbings and armed robberies - yes, It really is like a different planet.
Wonder if she knew she was being photographed?
Yes,there is massive wealth in certain parts ofLondon as well as poverty, crime and everything else.....was there a few weeks ago and saw properties, mainly apartments advertised in estate agents for £3,750 per calendar month.I always consider London to be a collection of many villages, otherwise I feel the sheer size of it is overwhelming.
This pic just reminds me of Maureen, who is a fabulous artist and once told me she has to paint, the idea of capturing of what she feels on canvas, and i have several of her fab paintings.Incidentally,Ronnie Wood has said the same thing, another multi-talented artist.
I have seen Maureen's work too, and as Elizabeth says, she is very talented. What with artists and poets, we have such talented people on Wigan World. It's lovely to be a part of it each day.
I know Irene,you are right.
Yes Maureen is good, she has a gift and I’m sure when the girl has finished her painting it will be a personal masterpiece for her. That is a difficult scene to paint.
I remember Tony Barrow the Wigan Artist coming to our WAG (Westhoughton Art Group) to give a demo. He started painting in blocks and everyone was gasping how it would turn out. Towards the end it was sheer genius what he did. It was a scene of Staithes in Yorkshire. Every month we have a professional artist come along to our group. We have had Joanne Boon Thomas another Wigan professional showing us the way it’s done.
Anybody painting ‘plein air’ can expect people to be peering over their shoulder - it’s what people do. No doubt there will be the odd ignoramus giving their opinion when they haven’t a clue.
' I never listen to the critics . Nobody ever put up a statue to a critic ' .
Sibelius
Veronica, Joanne Boon Thomas is based in Mawdesley, Ormskirk, L40 3SY. What on Earth gives you the idea that she's a "Wigan professional"?
Because that is where she comes from originally.
By the way I know exactly where she is based at Mawdesley.
