Interesting photograph Dennis. Notice the windows in the attic room have been-blocked, up presumably because of the window tax, you noticed many old
houses have windows that have been bricked up. This is were they saying daylight robbery

I was always told this building was the Old Upholland Court House.

Just look at that, lovely old house. Wonder if the row of windows are weaver's windows, to let as much light in when working at a loom ?

390 years of history in that building. I would love to see inside although it’s probably modern. All that ‘mishmash’ at the front lower level is very interesting, wonder what it was before it was used as a house. It’s very ‘quirky’ ….

I would just love to see inside that.

This was the old Manorial Court House, in use until the late 1800's. After that the house was known as The Band room as UpHolland village band used it to rehearse. It is now a private house.

I would love to live there!

Interesting and quaint making an historical contribution to the area. However would hate to live there. Going off my neighbours cottage which has much bigger windows I am certain this place must be dark and depressing in winter and where would I put my car?

Derby House, School Lane, Upholland, Lancashire. Or Stanley (Legs of Man) House. Used as courthouse until 1717.

Irene and Maureen - can I tag along with you please, would love to have a look inside! A really interesting building. Wonder what if they'll bring back the window tax - they've taxed everything else.

Pat,I wonder if the three of us went and knocked on their door to ask if we could have a look around..we could each take an peace offering of baked cakes etc .the mind boggles as to what it looks like inside doesn't it.

I have just had a look on at 55 School Lane, Upholland, on Google Earth
and it is now so very different and quite attractive.

Comment by: Pat McC on 23rd July 2022 at 13:26

Don't think I'd be asked in if they tasted my cakes Maureen!

Pat,never underestimate yourself love.

I sent the last comment to Pat..not Pat herself..don't know what happened there.

I don't know who put the last two comments on,but it certainly wasn't me.Id just like to know why ?

Comment by: Veronica on 24th July 2022 at 11:22

Somebody ‘ghosting’ again Maureen. There should be something that can stop people doing that if it the post doesn’t match their email.

Comment by: Maureen on 24th July 2022 at 12:37

It's so annoying Veronica.

Comment by: Pat on 24th July 2022 at 19:27

I was puzzled too Maureen, but I have seen posts from 'Pat' before, that's why I use the initials for my surname. Anyway, thanks for your reply.
