The Wheatsheaf
Photo: Dennis Seddon (Sony DSC-WX500)
Looks very welcoming and inviting on a Summer’s day. The plants and shrubs are lovely, good that the pub is still open. Nice photo Dennis, you do get around..
Went past the Wheatsheaf yesterday and the scaffolding is still up at the row of cottages.
In the 60s we used to go on our weekend pub crawls taking in the Alison Arms, Railway, British Legion, and the Wheatsheaf , I remember I picked up a girl on one of them and we ended up having grilled Rainbow trout in the Sheaf, it was the first time I had ever had it.
What an attractive pub.....lovely photo, Dennis. I don't recall ever seeing that, although I know where The Alison Arms, as mentioned by Mick, is located. Thanks to Mick's clarification, (via his solicitor). on yesterday's p-a-d, we now know that he is still here with us. In the end, London just couldn't compare! I think we'd have missed him, really!
Very interesting that Mick,…..but when was the first time that you ever had grilled rainbow trout , can you remember ?
Ozy - very subtle!
Very nice photo Dennis, saying pubs are on the decline its nice.I have to say Dennis, I was thinking what Irene just said. You do get around, are you also on a bike? Just curious.
Come to think of it Mick, the first time I had it she looked a bit like a grilled trout as well.
DTease, you never fail to make me laugh!
Steady on there DTease …..I’ll thank you to be a bit more respectful when speaking about my ex-missus if you don’t mind .
It depends where I want to go Edna, sometimes I take the car, sometimes I jump on a bus and sometimes I walk.
Before the lockdowns began I went all over the place by train. Blackrod to Man Victoria or Piccadilly and then pick a destination at random from the board. To me that’s a great way to spend a day.
Around Wigan I tend to catch a bus at random and then walk back towards Wigan taking photos of anything I find interesting on the way.
On this visit to Appley Bridge I caught a bus to Randall’s Corner and then walked the length of Skull House Lane, down the hill from there to the canal and then up Mill Lane back to Randall’s Corner and on to Shevington where I jumped on a bus back to Wigan. Not everyone’s cup of tea I suppose, but I enjoy it.
Dennis, I believe you are a mate of Harry Cherrington?
Harry Cherrington?
Dennis , if the wind ever blows you to London , there is a nice Thames boat trip from Embankment to Greenwich and back , two hours approx . Your free bus pass will cover it . I’m sure you and your camera would enjoy it .
That sounds interesting Marky. I’m not too fond of London, but one thing about the big cities, there is always something of interest if you like taking photos.
Salford Quays is a favourite of mine, I must have taken hundreds of photos around the buildings there.
I just keep going back for more and I always seem to find something new every time I visit.
Whitby is another great place, full of little nooks and crannies to explore. Quirky little shops and houses everywhere.
Thank you for that Dennis, I agree with you, it's not everyone's cup of tea I suppose, like you say. But It gets you out and about, and enjoying it is a wonderful way to spend your time doing what you really enjoy.
Dennis, Whitby is one of my favourite places on Earth, as is much of Yorkshire. I am a proud Lancastrian but Yorkshire takes some beating! As for "abroad"....anyone who chooses to go is welcome to it!
My bus and train pass takes me all over the place, today it took me and the missis to Altrincham, by bus, train and tram.
I went in the chippy I said can I have a steak pie with about 6 chips, chippy woman thought for a bit and then said of course you can love.
Other recent bus trips have been Southport, St Helens, Warrington, Trafford centre & Ormskirk.
Marky the London pensioners freedom passes in London are great, Ive used my bus pass to take the river boats and many bus routes,
Your quite right Irene , Yorkshire takesome beating , but theirs nothing wrong with abroad has long as you dont go to the the same places were the council house residents go to.
Harry Cherrington?
Yes. Clifton Drive? Worked on the railways? His photo is on the album, filling batteries with an apprentice at Ince?
Harry! Says he knows you!
Oh yes don't go near the council house tenants, they might just you why he's has to change his name about three times because of misdemeanours ,it's very interesting.
I was hoping that I’d heard the last of this intellectual midget Terry,
But it seems as though he’s decided to transfer his bile filled posts from the communicate general board to p.a d.
Is there no escape from this clown.
I remember when the Sheaf started doing Rainbow trout.
