Belle Green
My Auntie Mary lived in West Street, off Belle Green Lane, when I was a child but we usually took the short cut to her house via Careless Lane and the gypsy caravan site, However, on the odd occasion we went via Belle Green Lane, that building fascinated me. It seemed somehow foreign as if it was from my story-books, at home, which were the stories of Hans Christian Andersen or The Brothers Grimm. It always appeared a bit "alien" for Higher Ince!
I agree Irene, it does look a bit out of place there. I wonder what the residents thought about it when it was built amongst the terraced housing. A very Walt Disney look about it. The garish front of the shop spoils it on the end.
All that i can say that it looks a very run down area! there is notning nice to say about it.
It was the fact that it looked so out of place that tempted me to take a photo of it Irene.
I believe that the upper floors have been converted into flats and the whole building is worth something like three or four hundred thousand.
Worked on this pub many times Dennis, doing repairs for Mathew Brown ,Lions Brewery nearly all the pubs in Ince where Lions Brewery so we where always busy.
Dennis just imagine if that building was in London it would be worth a cool couple of million if not more! In the upmarket places though…..
I wonder if “ITMA’ is at it again…. , sounds like it.
Veronica/ Irene: I wonder how many drunks kept shouting up at the Window, come on love! Rapunzel let me in, don’t bother with the hair, just throw a key.
I’am not climbing with seven pints.
That’s why your locked out John …..:o))
I think it’s time to send for local nursery children and give them a paint pot each .
I enjoyed that bit of banter, Veronica and John G! xxx
Come on Wigan !!, What a game !, Sorry Dennis .
Irene and Veronica you're right the building does look out of place for the area, but when it was built I suppose it would have been quite well to do around there at the time as I remember some grand buildings being on Manchester Road too. The old police station down the road from Rapunzel's is also a nice building which was converted into housing. See link.

David B, I too went in here a couple of times, not to drink but to spray insecticide for the cockroaches.
