This is outrageous in todays society, its everyones fault for voting them fools in and also voting for brexit. This goverment do not care for the poorest families, everyone must have seen it when sky news was at wigan with Kay Burley last week. threw All i can say is that it is disgusting especially for the homeless who are genuine some are! threw no fault of their owm some have mental health issues.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 21st May 2022 at 08:13

What a sorry sight. Who cleans up ?
WMC would do better to address this issue rather than erect more white elephants to be remembered by...

Comment by: Peeedofff on 21st May 2022 at 08:37

Theyve got loads of money for useless bike lanes no one wants but wont /refuse to deal with this.

Comment by: irene roberts on 21st May 2022 at 09:03

It is not just homeless people who do this....it makes my blood boil to see well-dressed people, finish a can of pop in the street and just throw the can on the ground and walk on! People have picnics at designated benches in parks and leave all their rubbish behind on the benches, when often there is a bin nearby! My children weren't allowed to drop a toffee--paper or a bus-ticket; they were made to walk to a bin or take the rubbish home and I have been gratified to see my grandchildren do the same. Children are taught by example. Even in the 1960s when we got chips in a newspaper bag I can remember people screwing up the empty bag and throwing it on the floor, and I have a book of photos of Blackpool in the 1960s where there are chip-papers and other rubbish all over the road. I recently watched a young girl take a cigarette from a packet at a bus-stop and throw the empty packet on the floor and she was leaning on a bin! And, unbelievably, we have been following cars where the occupants have just opened a window and thrown out all their McDonald's food cartons and bags whilst driving along! To those of us who wouldn't dream of dropping litter there is no logic to it but it has always gone on and always will. Makes my blood boil!

Useless government and an even more useless opposition . What a mess the country's in . One thing's for sure , the occupier of this bed didn't cross the channel on a rubber boat .

Comment by: Chris on 21st May 2022 at 09:24

Yes,julie. I saw it on kay burley. Especially the family who resorted to using candles when the electric ran out. Disgusting indeed. Genuine working people thrown under the bus because of these idiots in power.it shoudnt be this way.

Comment by: Dick Dastardly on 21st May 2022 at 09:55

Daft left wing council recently re elected by the daft electorate .

Comment by: Dave on 21st May 2022 at 09:59

I saw on Kay Burley the family who were forced to go to the chippy everyday for meals . Really . £6.50 for fish n chips at my local . O and the bloke was smoking too.

Comment by: Julie on 21st May 2022 at 10:03

Yes poet, this country is in a very big big big mess i just hope there is civil unrest in the coming months people will only take so much half off this country cant see how the other half are copin there is people who are working and cant afford food heating etc, as well as the poor pensioners to who are also struggling how bad does it have to go before something gets done. We have only just come out off a pandemic and have to face this its disgusting i bet this goverment are not going without food or electric or other essentials having parties when people were dying in the pandemic they are one evil twisted lot.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 21st May 2022 at 10:48

Over the years we have been conditioned to think we will be looked after by ' somebody ' from the cradle to the grave.....it doesnt work that way & we should wake up to the fact. Ok its not an ideal world but some self help wouldn't come amiss. We have become a nation of moaners, blaming everybody but ourselves.
I feel better for writing that !

Comment by: WPC 8888 on 21st May 2022 at 11:25

This is in King Street Wigan.
I blame the manufacturers of Frosty Jack

Comment by: irene roberts on 21st May 2022 at 12:43

Agreed, Dave....if we have fish and chips these days we consider it a treat! My heart goes out to people who truly have nothing, but so many people "rely" on cafes and supermarkets giving children free meals so they don't go hungry in school holidays when there are no school dinners. I certainly never went to school without breakfast, but it wasn't egg and bacon...it was a slice of toast. How much does a slice of toast cost? Or a bowl of supermarket brand cereal with a splash of milk? No child needs to go to school hungry. As I say, I feel for people who are truly poverty-stricken but many of the people who go for the free meals have cars and expensive mobile phones, (mine was a tenner and is donkey's years old!) This is not poverty---this is neglect. If my Mam was skint we had a plate of home-made chips for our tea, or a pan of lobbies made with a bit of corned beef and, potatoes, but we weren't hungry. We had no car when I was a child. , no phone, no microwave, no washing machine. We managed without the things we couldn't have instead of expecting them as our right.

Comment by: another Dave on 21st May 2022 at 12:49

Helen of Troy , Best post I have read not only here but anywhere. Absolutely Brilliant!!! People should you look at themselves first. This idea we can just have kids and somebody else will pay for them is utter nonsense! It sends a message to the world you don't have to work here. No wonder people are risking their lives in boats to get here.

Comment by: Veronica on 21st May 2022 at 13:00

Is it any wonder they come across in boats after crossing 3 or 4 countries to a land of not so plenty at the moment and the worse is yet to come.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 21st May 2022 at 13:06

I agree with you Irene. There is poverty & there is poverty.....surely people would put their childs welfare before their own but the sad fact is I dont think they all do. As I wrote earlier they would rather blame someone else... ie the government of the day. If that changed & we had a new government in power, do they think things would change ? I very much doubt it.
And thats all I have to say.

Comment by: Poet on 21st May 2022 at 14:19

We've all been given £150 council tax rebate . This council are not exactly quick in dishing it up are they . What they're really after is my bank details.
Why didn't they just knock it off the bill from the start . Useless .
Useless police . Useless border force . Spiv shopkeepers ripping us off . Phone zombies in pubs . Illegals in leather jackets shouting into mobiles . Dog poo in bags hanging on a tree . Kids buying their breakfast in Lidl and tossing the scrunched up wrappers on the floor ( eco warriors my foot) . People who use Covid as an excuse for an easy life . Get back to work ! Useless cricket team . Naga bloody Munchetty ...........
You can't whack a good moan Helen .

I reckon that a lot of relatively well off people in this country of ours are in for a very rude awakening to the facts of life in the next year or two.

And don't get me started on the Tropic of Capricorn. What the hell is that all about?

Comment by: Dougie on 21st May 2022 at 15:05

Helen & Irene two good posts from you both, I come from a family of 7 children and my wife from a family of 11 children in the 30/40s, our Mam & Dads looked after us the best way they could, we when I say WE, I mean all the children from both family's have done well for them selves and their children

Comment by: Cyril on 21st May 2022 at 15:38

The folks that congregate or sleep here may want to live their life this way, you can see there are sharps so they can afford to buy heroin and also a swig of cider, maybe they sit outside the supermarkets asking for spare change to pay for it, which is what a young girl sat outside Tesco does saying she's homeless despite having a paid for by the social flat in Scholes. When she was first there someone who knew her said she was a druggie and not to give her money, so I refused to give any and she had the audacity to say "Some tell me to get a job, but sitting here for six or more hours a day is my job," it must be well paid too as there are three there now.

I find this government are doing as good has they possible can considering the very recent past and present circumstances the country is going through, and I cannot see that any of the opposition parties could or would have fared any better, even with all their pipe dreams and blather about saying what they would do or could have. Instead of nit-picking they should support the government in these difficult times especially with even more difficulties to come.

Comment by: irene roberts on 21st May 2022 at 16:01

Helen, in my local Iceland store, (just down the road from me). there is a notice by all the tills saying that School Meal Vouchers can't be used to buy alcohol.....I think that says it all, don't you?!

Helen,Irene and Cyril all speaking sensibly on here, thank goodness @

Poet , I saw this chap , about 20 , on a train station platform eating his bag of junk food . On completion , he nonchalantly dropped the box and other bits onto the floor and kicked it onto the track beautifully . He then wiped his mouth with the tissue and threw that to same place .... We live in hope ?
Some will say why didn’t you confront him? My answer is , if it’s not there in the brain what’s there to confront . This is why things will always be the same no matter what government we have . If we hand out free money, free housing , free schooling , free health care , then why do I need to even think about going to work . As long as ‘someone ‘ is paying for it , what is the problem ? You must , in our free society today, is considered Right Wing .
Choice is a far easier word to say , but has consequences when more and more see free as the way to move forward , when once it was graft , the only way .

I can’t see any party getting this country out of the mess it’s in. The situation ( Ukraine war, Covid , sanctions on Russia causing energy prices to rise out of all proportion) is far too serious and it will definitely get worse. Inflation is as high as it was 40 odds yrs ago we had to get through by our own efforts. I don’t remember being helped out when there was only one wage coming in. The only benefit was the Family Allowance. We had to budget every penny until the kids started school and was alleviated by working part time which helped later on. It’s not unusual to see couples during the week with children in tow - I ask myself how come the dad isn’t at work. Plus cooking is not high on the agenda. Neither do they seem to be without what I would call luxuries. On top of all that we have thousands coming into this country and increasing more pressure on services without paying anything in to this country.
Just like some of our own who haven’t paid anything in. I know I will get ‘shot down ‘ for saying what I think but to my mind it’s true.

Comment by: Poet on 21st May 2022 at 21:01

Quite so Another Dave , It' s about morality not politics and I'm not at ease with any government that police morals . The way they talk now of ' hate crime ' is terrifying , right out of Orwell's 1984 .
But throughout history the left have always been the most authoritarian .
From Robespierre to Pol Pot . Stalin . Chairman Moa . Even Hitler was a socialist , albeit a nationalist one like Sturgeon .
For me, today's post illustrates the gulf between what ordinary people in the street think and what is expressed by the wealthy metro media in North London where they vote socialist simply to ease their conscience .
What I can't stand is the fanaticism where subjectivity totally gets in the way of progress . Julie , you sound exactly like the deputy leader of her Majesty's Opposition.

Well said Veronica, also Irene,Helen ,Cyril and Dougie.

Comment by: Ang on 22nd May 2022 at 00:26

Irene the school meal vouchers were issued during the first lockdown year, sadly lots of people tried to buy alcohol and cigarette with them instead of feeding their children.

Comment by: Veronica on 22nd May 2022 at 07:48

The sooner we get the brains of this country working on ways and means of supplying us with other forms of energy the better. We should NOT have to rely on rasPutin / Russia for our gas. The profits made by the various ‘middle man’ companies should be used for that and some given over to reduce the prices we are being asked to pay! Sounds simple but it’s not rocket science!

Comment by: Cyril on 22nd May 2022 at 15:27

Julie I appreciate you are entitled to your own opinions, but sadly I do have to live in the real world and with working all my life and now on the pension your comment about my finances made me laugh. Boris did get voted in remember, so even ordinary folks must have had confidence in the Tory's. With the knock on effects of the pandemic and a recession worse than the 1970s the country is on its knees and being said soon to be on its back, then no matter who's in power it won't be a pleasant ride out of it.
