Swim
A nice picture of Wigan Park and a tentative dog before dipping his paws in the water. Looks like he can’t make his mind up….. just like me when I’m at the baths when the heatings turned off!
Can't make out the building. Looking towards Wigan or the café? So long since I've been there.
Tony G, Looking towards Bridgeman Terrace, cafe on the left ( just out of picture), the building is the rear of what was the veranda and also toilets, I think.
Not a wise choice letting dogs swim when birds/ducks are nesting, some may have little ones.
Are there still ducks on the pond or has the dogs made them take flight, though looking there isn't any bird life to be seen anywhere on the photo. Perhaps with folks not being able to feed them now they're probably staying away from the pond area, a good thing too in a way I suppose as it would at times be reeking with rotting bread in the water.
Dogs should be on a lead. Not running wild.
Looks like the magnet fishers have been there and pulled out a old bike and just left it there.
Bread don't have time to rot Cyril, the birds snap it up straight away and yes there is plenty bird life there. Where there's water there's birds.
Totally agree about the mutts roaming about. Silly owners.
I think two ducks have migrated over to me. Mr. and Mrs. Mallard. Seem to have have taken up residence in my garden, cannot imagine why, there is no water apart from two small dishes for smaller birds drinking water. They have been here for over a month.
Stan it's obvious you don't remember or had never seen the mass of bread that had been thrown in the pond and left to rot and stink, and it took the leisure dept. an age to drain the pond, clean it out and re-line it with puddle clay. So probably a lot better if folks don't feed the ducks and leave the feeding of them to the park rangers.
As for the presence of birds, look at the photo - can you see any, it's the first time I've seen the park without even a pigeon.
Well said Garry, no thought for wildlife, and nesting.
Cyril you can't see any birds because the dogs have scared them away. I Would have thought that was logical. Well said Garry.
We are trying to manoeuvre Nature to our way of being and thinking . It should be the other way round . Seagulls , pigeons , foxes , look to man now to survive , our own excesses , allows them to do so happily . Unfortunately , Nature , is objecting to this contract and arrangement .
