Nice pick Dennis, looks very clean is that Dave Whelans property i know he owns land in wrightington.

Not a bad view to look out on in any season.

How nice is that, a house by a lake & a boathouse as well. A truly pleasant photo Dennis.

Comment by: PeterP on 20th March 2022 at 08:21

When ever we go over along this road we notice how devoid of birds both lakes are. You would expect to see Ducks/Moor hens etc. Not a bird to be seen on the photo.

It get a lot of traffic noise, with all those Audi driver who have just left the Wrightington country club gym flying up Moss lane, and all them big lorries on Hall lane, so I wouldn't want to live in it.

Well, at least you won't be bothered by traffic noise when you're living under the Hammersmith flyover will you Mick?

What with all them big lorries rumbling past and all.

That's a lovely photo. It's pleasant and picturesque and yet, with its half-hidden house and the little boat-house place at the edge of the water, it could also be the cover of a murder-mystery book, but that's just my imagination! As the front door of my little terraced house opens directly onto the pavement, and is literally just a few feet away from a very busy road, the traffic noise Mick mentions wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Give some people a doughnut and they will only see the hole!

A good photo Dennis of a lovely part of the world.

I find double glazing is perfect for any noise issue. I wonder what t'th owd mon will think of all th' owd buildings round London...

Lake House was for many years the home of Tom Calderbank and family of the Calderbank scrap metals fame, i used to call there monthly in the late 60's early 70's when i worked for an insurance company. I believe it is now owned by an Irish person who has a building company.
Behind Dennis's back is an even bigger part of the lake, Wrightington Fish Ponds as they were called locally
Dave Lewis.... David Whelan lives in Miry Lane, Parbold which is off Lancaster Lane.

Mick, what a load of rubbish coming from a lad that lives literally at the side of the M6 in Shevvy, I know Wrightington Country club very well, in fact i'll be there at 12 noon today and there probably won't be a single Audi on the car park. PLUS, most of the cars leaving the club turn left to go out of Moss Lane, not right to go past Lake House.
Lorries on Hall Lane ??? Where are THEY going Wrightington Hospital ??
Dennis is stood on the bridge on Hall Lane which is at least 500 yards from the house, ( it looks closer than that on the pic) so i don't think there'll be much traffic noise coming from there.

It does look rather posh around that area, posher than Shangri La even.

Comment by: Bill on 20th March 2022 at 12:35

It is owned by Mr Boylan, the man behind Dorbcrest who own Winstanley Hall. A great pity that is not in the same condition!

Ray you want to try riding a bike up Moss lane when the muscle men and manly looking women are leaving your club then you will know what Im on about.
And if you follow the lorries you will see that they go right through the ruined historical village of Newburgh on there way to Burscough industrial estate.
Another good spot to get you head around this over used noisy road is at the exit junction of Wrightington hospital.
Ray when I had money to waste, I used to be a member of Wrightington gym but I gave it up as a bad job.

Boylans daughter had a helicopter license before she had a car driving license.

Knew big Jim as we called him and he's only 5'-4" , but a very nice man then in 1984, long before he got that place

Comment by: DTease on 20th March 2022 at 15:28

When I had money to waste Mick, it never crossed my mind to go to the Gym with it. I usually donated it to the Landlord's Pension Fund, Thanks to my generosity he and his family were able to retire early and move to Spain. It was a just reward for the hours of pleasure his establishment provided me with.
if you're fit enough to partake of exercise you're fit enough not to need any.

Irene you are right, there are always some people who will only see an empty hole in the doughnut.
BTW talking about seeing stuff, I sent you a message a few days ago on your Fakebook page, about how you could be dressing up and helping the Queen to celebrate her jubilee

Comment by: fred on 20th March 2022 at 16:09

A very nice photo, it must be great to live there.

Comment by: Roy on 20th March 2022 at 16:48

Mick i'm not a member of the WH & CC gym, my daughter works there and i take and bring her home every workday.
I still think your talking rubbish about the traffic Mick, sorry.

Comment by: Cyril on 20th March 2022 at 16:51

Bill, it's obscene the way Winstanley Hall has been left to decay, if left up to the present owners more likely it'll become so bad it will have to be demolished, and for them free to build expensive houses.

Dougie, he's still three inches taller than Poo-tin and a lot more likely to be a much nicer man too.

Mick, whenever I've had to go to Wrightington hospital at busy times I found it easier to turn left and then go down Appley Lane North and much preferred it too with it being a nice route to drive through.

Comment by: irene roberts on 20th March 2022 at 18:18

Mick, I haven't got your facebook message.

Comment by: Mick on 20th March 2022 at 22:26

Yes Cyril you are better off turning left when you get a break.
Roy Im not going to argue but you are wrong.
