Soon we will all be queueing to be fed, dust the soup kitchens down

I think this cafe operates like the Fur Clemp cafe.

Comment by: Mick on 4th February 2022 at 08:38

Tom’s Pantry at St James Poolstock are working with the Fur Clemt food outlet its only £5 annual membership and £2 for 18 items.

They'll still have to pay their Gas and Electric bills in these places, nothing is free...

What a wonderful idea! The menu sounds delicious! So happy they are able to reach out to others this way.

When I was growing up in the 50s I never dreamed that there would come a time in my life when there would be Food Banks, Soup Kitchens and so many families without a decent roof over their heads.
Sometimes when I look around me I feel ashamed at what I see happening to the country that I was so proud of back then.
I know there will be people who disagree with me, but the fact is I just don't feel the pride that I once felt for this country as it is now. Just my opinion.

Comment by: John G on 4th February 2022 at 16:31

DTease: That’s a good honest opinion it is disgusting that people have to beg for food, and now make a choice to heat the house or have something to eat.
What crawls me pensioners have been knocked back on the cost of living rise from 8% to 3.1% now some rich conglomerates are telling us we are going to pay 54%more for heating.
I forget who said it, if you want to have peace and harmony in the world, and make MPs do the right thing you have to fight for it,and make your voice heard.

Comment by: Joan on 4th February 2022 at 16:50

Food banks and soup kitchens are OK for the homeless but those who have a house to live in should learn how to cook simple meals

Comment by: Veronica on 4th February 2022 at 17:36

A lot of young ones prefer eating takeaways. At least with what's on the cards they won't be able to afford them, everything will go up in price.
I read today that MP's get £3000 towards their gas and electricity bills! Makes my blood boil.

Comment by: Dave on 5th February 2022 at 08:34

Why not paddle over and get it free .

Comment by: PeterP on 5th February 2022 at 08:43

Joan people on low income now cook basic meals but if their heating bills are going up by hundreds of pounds to cook these simple meals then they will have to look elsewhere for a hot meal. Look in any supermarket and look at the basic foods which have gone up in price from Bread to eggs to a tin of soup or baked beans

Comment by: Karen on 5th February 2022 at 15:04

Lidl and perhaps more supermarkets have boxes of groceries for £1.50,and there are several community hubs where you can get a £3 shop for several items.I have to agree with Joan, people need to learn how to cook basic simple meals which are not expensive at all.I cannot believe that there is less money around than in the 1940's and 1950's,a lot of people now seem to believe everything is someone else's responsibilty. You learn to budget for your means, that seems to have become a forgotten skill.

Well said Karen

Comment by: DTease on 5th February 2022 at 21:26

Karen, do you know that the Foodbanks are having to change the food that they supply because, even now, people can’t afford the gas and electric to cook the stuff they were providing? Goodness knows what these folks are going to do when these enormous rises kick in.
In the 40s and 50s people looked out for each other, sadly, this country is a lot more mean spirited now than it was then.
Kids should not be going hungry in the sixth wealthiest country in the world.

Comment by: Karen on 6th February 2022 at 09:11

Yes,you're right, this country is a lot different to how it used to be.People moaning and whining about everything, what happened to having some pride in yourself and some responsibility? Do you really believe life is so much better anywhere else? Try living in China, Russia and plenty more places where expressing an opinion is a possible death sentence. The fuel costs spiralling is a worldwide thing.I will agree to disagree with you on some many levels and leave it there.

What happened to the obesity crisis?

Comment by: DTease on 6th February 2022 at 11:09

O.k.Karen, we’ll leave it there now you’ve had a good moan and whine.

Comment by: Janet on 6th February 2022 at 12:54
