Ghost Sign
Photo: Poet (Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70F)
I can just about make out WIGAN, they have loads of these preserved ghost signs in London
There's a yellow cartoon pig
MIck there are plenty of Ghost signs around the Wigan/St Helens area
I find them fascinating. Some are remarkably well-preserved.
Fancy having the cheek to make a window in the middle of that ghost sign... they'll be haunted forever more! ;~)
Fancy having the cheek to knock bricks out to make a wi do wfor a windowK
Ive noticed some in Horwich
I'm having problems with 'freezing' on my iPad when I comment on here. It doesn't happen anywhere else. I'll blame the adverts.
The Hesketh Refrigeration sign is also a bit of a ghost with the outdated dialing code .
Some years ago I'd go past there quite often and the painting was quite distinct, the company logo 'So that's were we go' and the very blissful looking scene of two pigs in front of Mark Williams abattoir gates on Crompton Street clearly seen. It then suddenly became very faded as shown on the photo, as though maybe someone had been trying to scrub or wash it off the wall.
There's a PaD from 23/12/08 of an advert for Hurst's jam on Frog Lane before the gable was rebuilt. https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/photoaday.php?photo=2008-12-23
Was the company logo spelt wrong on the original sign too?
Yes, I can see Mr Anson that I missed out an 'H', as I have in your name too.
