Nice pic Dennis, looks quite busy nice to see Galleries glass building over rooftops, but sadly not for much longer.

Comment by: PeterP on 12th January 2022 at 08:48

It looks busy but there are less than a dozen people in the photo

Nice photo Dennis, but busy with traffic, and taxis, not people. There is nothing in Wigan any more, and in the next few months, it will be even worse.

Who would have thought a few years ago that common Wigan people would be using taxis to get them around

Comment by: DTease on 12th January 2022 at 10:43

Your’re right there Mick, thirty years ago us “Common Wigan people” were hard pressed to scrape up enough dole money to get a taxi home from the Pub of a Saturday night!
Are there any “Common” people in Shangri-La Shevington Mick? Or are they all Pit Bosses and Bank Managers? I bet the “Common people” are turned back at the border by the Parish Council aren’t they Mick?
Has the Parish Council built that wall around those “Common people” on the Council estate yet Mick? Or are they planning to move them all out en masse?
They should put a big sign up at the border saying “COMMON PEOPLE NOT WELCOME HERE”.

It's the so called 'common' people keeping business going in that small space of Wigan where it looks so terribly, terribly busy.

Comment by: Muffin on 12th January 2022 at 13:41

Those taxis won't be picking up fares, they'll actually be 'Uber Eats' taking junk food ordered from the down and out of way places like Shevington that don't have Kentucky's or McDonalds, all told they are kept very busy - so much so that United Utilities are also kept busy clearing gigantic fatbergs from the sewers around there.

As anyone heard if the Wilkinson store further up is safe? It was recently announced a number of stores across the region are set to close in the coming months.

Comment by: Garry on 12th January 2022 at 13:50

Plenty junk food outlets.

And we are living in a world of the common people, common people like you, I want to live with common people, and do what common people do.

Plenty of common folk up here in Shevy now a days, and they all use taxis day and night, god knows how they can afford them.

Muffin - one of the news streaming services listed 15 Wilkinson stores which were to close - Wigan wasn't on that list.

Comment by: Muffin on 12th January 2022 at 17:14

That's certainly good news for Wigan town centre Pat McC.

Yes indeed.

Comment by: Alf Tickle on 13th January 2022 at 18:39
