I Don’t Know

I Don’t Know
All things considered, maybe the black and red stripes were better after all. (See P.A.D. 28th Sept 2021)

Still looks like a disgusting and dirty place.

Wait until Mick sees it.

There must have been a lot of complaints. The plaster work is in a bad way. It still looks 'minging '. Nothing 'tasty' about the building. Perhaps it's not finished yet!

Comment by: TerryW on 1st December 2021 at 09:57

Look at the state of the painting, if it's finished you'll only get the drunks going in.

Comment by: Edna on 1st December 2021 at 10:26

It certainly doesn't look all that tasty, I wouldn't fancy anything to eat from there. It looks like the plaster is about to fall on some ones head, dangerous.

Because the shops in France Street,I’am going to send President Macron a garlic filled Kebab with extra chilli sauce. That should keep him busy with the le trots.
That should give him something else to moan about.

Who eats in a place like this?

Comment by: Garry on 1st December 2021 at 12:28

Looks like a buildings from a third world country, completely run-down.
Perhaps the food tastes the same.

WW is full of pictures showing how shopkeepers in the olden days took pride in how they presented theirs shops and sold their goods .

Comment by: Sir Bob on 1st December 2021 at 13:17

Anyone remember when that building was a Barclays Bank branch.

Comment by: Veronica on 1st December 2021 at 13:24

You do that John G - send it special delivery in one of them inflatable boats that are piling up.

A classic example of a re roof done around 1978-80, heavy tiles in place of slate. The roof trusses should have been reinforced to take the extra weight. The state of the roof line tells me that didn't happen. The roof is pushing down onto the walls.
The strongest part of that place is the metal shutters.
It appears to be the sort of "eats" place where neighbours regularly find their pets missing.

I wonder if John Mills and Sylvia Simms , emerging parched and hungry from the desert , only to be confronted by such an insalubrious looking establishment at journey's end , might give it a miss ?

Comment by: Veronica on 1st December 2021 at 15:02

The ' Ice Cold in Alex' pub looked a lot more welcoming than that building Poet. A great classic - you could nearly taste the lager they were drinking.

Thank god we have photos from the past on WW to show how we cared for our shops and buildings. Not only Wigan, but all over the UK.

Comment by: Cyril on 1st December 2021 at 17:26

I do remember that being a bank Sir Bob, and also when all those shops on Ormskirk Road were always busy with folks shopping, you only went into town at weekends to get something they didn't stock and to go to either the farmers market or the market hall.

Comment by: Harry Wharton on 1st December 2021 at 17:43

WHO would eat anything from here???? It is ALWAYS having problems with infestations of vermin etc All the row should be demolished and some modern shops built in their place.

Comment by: Roylew on 1st December 2021 at 18:46

Think I would rather have a kebab from Antz Barbers

Comment by: Angela on 1st December 2021 at 19:53

It's a 4 on the hygiene scale.

Comment by: Derek Platt on 1st December 2021 at 20:00

If ever there was a building that the council should have razed to the ground, this is the one

Comment by: Alan on 1st December 2021 at 20:15

Years ago going home from the pubs and clubs, their was no kebabs outlets and all that rubbish up and down our high streets, just traditional English fish and chips, great.

Comment by: annemarie on 1st December 2021 at 22:36

This has nothing to do with thus picture but on looking through the other sites I think there are pictures that are cheap and shoddy and should not be on Wigan World

Comment by: Dave johnson on 1st December 2021 at 23:07

I remember when it was a bank and also when it was a bookies?
