What is the red car for with its boot up? Also the white car is going against the flow of traffic by using a left turn lane to overtake.

Comment by: WN1 Standisher on 27th November 2021 at 09:34

The red car is probably a support vehicle for the lad in the chair. The white car is typical of todays driving standards, impatient. Good photo Mick. He's just passed Lidl in Standish heading towards the lights. Anyone know where his from and to is ?

This is Preston Rd, Standish, Avondale St being the right turn PeterP is referring to, near the Lidl store. I would think the red car was accompanying the athlete and there is a warning sign displayed in his boot, if that is the case the driver of the silver car is entitled to pass if the road is clear, the over taker can hardly be expected to stay behind the red vehicle travelling at the athlete's speed

He certainly has a very determined look....well done to him!

Its a broken white line so no reason why the white car cant cross it to pass the red one..........assuming its safe to do so.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th November 2021 at 10:32

I wish him success in his endeavours, by the look on his face he is very determined. I thought the red car was some form of support.

Looks like the A49 near to Avondale street Standish

I have nothing but respect for this man. If you keep getting up when life knocks you down you will never be defeated.

Comment by: PeterP on 27th November 2021 at 14:05

It is clear from the photo that the overtaking car is using a right turn lane which is set aside for cars coming in the opposite direction thus should have waited behind the red car. If you where in a car coming in the opposite direction and was getting ready to turn right the last thing you would expect is a car in the wrong lane .

John o' Groats to Land's End 874 miles

Comment by: Rev David Long on 27th November 2021 at 16:53

He's Veteran Ste Hughes from Appleton in Warrington. He began his John O'Groats to Lands End record attempt last June - but had a tumble 80 miles short and broke his shoulder. He said then he was giving up further records attempts... but it seems he hasn't. More on his injury here:
