Gathurst Bridge
I have seen many photos of this bridge, in different seasons and at different times of day and it is always a pleasant scene. If a bridge can be called photogenic, then this one is. My Mam told me that when she was young it was possible to go on canal-boat trips to Gathurst and there were swing-boats and a place where you cold get a cup of tea. I imagine many people with large families couldn't afford a day at Southport so Gathurst would be their day out.
A nice sun drenched photo, will be nicer still when Autumn tints of bronze and gold affect the trees.
Irene The swing boats and fairground rides were at the entrance to Dean Wood. there would be a lot of fresh air for you townies to fill there lung with in Gathurst,
I bet there was plenty of hanky panky went on behinds some of them trees, just think you could have been conceived in Gathurst upon Shevington.
Looks as good as anywhere in UK.
lovely part of the world.
great photo Mick.
Mick, I rather think I was conceived on New Year's Eve so my parents were unlikely to have been in Dean Wood....it would have been rather chilly!
Irene that made me laugh! As if your mam and dad would have gone in the woods amongst the trees! Himself might have but some people do have some decorum!
Dolly dear, apparently babies conceived on New Year's Eve are born on October 5th....I was born on October 6th so I reckon that's near enough! As my mam and dad were 42 and 44 when I was born, I reckon I was a surprise, (a nice one I hope!).
Mick did you and your mates go mooching around there when the nudist camp was open, I'd imagine they'd be strutting around in the buff being cold and full of goose bumps even in midsummer down there.
Definitely a nice surprise Irene, it happened a lot in those days with ladies in their 40's. Anyway they wouldn't have wanted to frighten the horses if there had been any in the woods. ;~))
My mother used to talk about day's out to Gathurst, when she was young. Nice photo.
You've got a very vivid imagination Mick. Good picture though :)
