Pendlebury Lane is a long steep climb.

Lovely memories of walks around the Pendlebury Lane area with an old friend. There are some lovely places around our home town.

Comment by: Mick on 12th October 2021 at 09:50

Irene when you was out walking with your old friend, did you not start panting coming up that hill.

Comment by: Joseph on 12th October 2021 at 10:02

It's lovely walking in winter time in that area. Spent many happy times when I was courting my wife in the 70s. Hello Our Irene, nice to hear from you again, I've been AWOL for some time due to a family crisis.

Comment by: Veronica on 12th October 2021 at 11:24

Lovely country side , I don't know what the 'white elephant' in the top middle is.

Comment by: Veronica on 12th October 2021 at 13:12

I thought it was Heinz how could I not know!

Comment by: Dennis Seddon on 12th October 2021 at 13:58

Veronica, do you mean the H.J.Hienz factory?

Comment by: Edna on 12th October 2021 at 14:35

Veronica, when Dennis mentioned the Bean Machine in the rear, I thought he meant Heinz.

Comment by: Veronica on 12th October 2021 at 15:17

I'm not keen on the beans. The last time I got some they tasted very musty and earthy. I rang them to complain and they sent me some Salad Cream and one or two other things as compensation!!! I didn't ring them to get something in return, I though there was something wrong with the batch. It's just the beans that are horrible - I prefer HP Beans.

Comment by: Mike on 12th October 2021 at 16:09

Heinz / HP……same Company.

Comment by: Dave on 12th October 2021 at 16:11

Veronica HP Beans belong to Heinz.

Comment by: irene roberts on 12th October 2021 at 16:24

Hello Our Joseph.....how lovely to hear from you! Hope things are okay with you and your family now. Mick, I honestly can't remember whether I was panting or not....it was a long time ago!

Comment by: Veronica on 12th October 2021 at 17:14

I didn't know that HP were the same! How come they taste so much better? That's a new one on me... well you could blow me down with a feather!

Comment by: James Hanson on 12th October 2021 at 18:14

Dave, HP belongs to Berkshire-Hathaway.

Comment by: irene roberts on 12th October 2021 at 18:43

They could have a different recipe for the ones that have the "HP" label, Veronica.

Comment by: John G on 12th October 2021 at 18:49

Veronica: My old chap used to be on the bean line for fifteen years for Heinz.
All we had at the time was H P, used to say the sauce was better.

Comment by: Joseph on 12th October 2021 at 19:23

Hi, Our Irene, yes we are all good now the panic is over, we are looking forward to having a extremely good Christmas this year. Take care.

Comment by: Roy on 12th October 2021 at 19:47

HP Foods Ltd was sold to Group Danone SA in 1988. They sold the company to Heinz in 2005 for £470 million. HP Beans are now part of the Premier Food PLC and they market HP canned beans with the HP label.
Heinz where only interested in the HP Sauce label and Lee and Perrins sauces which HP owned. HP Beans are not canned by Heinz.

Comment by: Cyril on 12th October 2021 at 20:20

I don't think Heinz products are the same Veronica, they say they are the same recipes, but I doubt it. If you went past or even downwind of the factory at one time you could smell which product was being produced with the strong aroma in the air, but now there's nothing, maybe it's something to do with Kraft having taken over Heinz in 2015.

Heinz Kitt Green was very supportive of the local RSPCA and I would go and pick up Heinz produce hampers they donated for the raffles at Easter and Christmas, I remember the winners were always overjoyed to have won one. I stopped volunteering in 2012 and the RSPCA ceased the raffles soon after, so whether Kraft still donate these hampers for charity raffles I couldn't say.

Maybe this report by CNN says it all.

New York (CNN Business) It seems that Kraft Heinz was so focused on cutting costs that it forgot the most important thing for a food company to do: Make tasty products that people actually want to buy and eat.

Comment by: Ray on 12th October 2021 at 21:08

Joseph. You have quoted that the panic is now over....Are you referring
to the Covid Pandemic ?? Please let us know.

Comment by: Veronica on 12th October 2021 at 22:21

Well I've learned a lot from all you experts... I still won't buy a can of 'Heinz' beans. Other food stuff such as Salad Cream and Mayonnaise are ok though and Tomato Ketchup which I get for the grandkids. Nothing seems as tasty as it used to.

Comment by: Rev David Long on 13th October 2021 at 08:19

Oh dear, Veronica - isn't that a symptom of Covid-19? The very high rate of infection in the UK (many times that of neighbouring countries) suggests that the problem is that we're acting as if it's all over - and it isn't... and won't be if we carry on being as careless as we are about masks and meetings.

Comment by: Veronica on 13th October 2021 at 08:53

Don't worry Rev David , I haven't got Covid... been tested, had the jabs, plus I still wear my masks on transport and wherever there's numbers of people about. I think perhaps taste buds fade a bit as you get older, or they just get too used to a good thing. I find coffee doesn't have the same taste if you drink too much.. I've reduced my intake and find that's a solution. Hope you are keeping well, and everyone who comes on WW in these strange times.

Good picture Dennis, I put a few hours in at that place until 3G/Berkshire Hathaway got control. Can't quite see our house from where you are !!

Comment by: Joseph on 13th October 2021 at 20:00

Ray. Nothing to do with covid.
