Nice colourful pic Dennis, I like the beautiful buildings and the shot of all saints in background, I walked up and down that hill so many times, it's even harder on the old push bike.

I'll be coming in the opposite direction today. It's nice to look back at the town it's so familiar. I always remember walking back down the hill on Whit Monday past the Convent.

I have to say what a lovely coffee shop up past St Mary's. I met two friends for coffee this morning. It was very nice.

Memories-the end property just past the red box is Florence House which was our family dentist from the 40's to 1984. (Mr.D. W Dickinson.) I noticed it was still a dentist last time I visited the town. When my Father came to Wigan 1926, he found lodgings just round the corner from that building. Short walk for him working at Northern Counties then.
That is a good clear photograph of the entrance from the North to the town.

Barrie..it's my dentist as well..I've often wondered why it's called Florence House,it looks like it was originally a house at one time,I would love to know.

Can you see the Earl of Derby in August 1651 making his way down here having just lost half of his officers and men in a fierce battle just a little further up the road.
Having been wounded several times he sought help from sympathisers in the town before making his escape. Unfortunately for him the Parliamentary soldiers caught up with him later and he eventually lost his head.

My dentist for the last 70 years. Mr Maguire firstly. You remember the waiting room which was red leather seating you could sit in there for hours waiting to see the dentist, nobody talking. I am happy to say visiting the dentist is not a problem for me I have a high pain threshold and no matter what never have an anaesthetic.

That would be very nice Irene - especially if some other ladies from WW came as well. I think they do bath buns and cream teas. ;o))
