Astonishing how many motorists can't read .

I only know this bridge if its the one over the canal but not sure which way it is heading to.
If its the canal bridge leading into Gathurst from the Orell end. When my grandparents first moved to Wigan from Scotland in the late 1920's, they lived in a house just over the
bridge on the right hand side, probably long gone these days. I have a pic of my mother aged abt 12 yrs with her 2 brothers. Written on the back is ' Haymaking
at Gathurst '

Helen, The car is passing over the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, probably
having come down Gathurst Hill, passing under the bridge which carries
the railway line from Wigan Wallgate to Parbold, Burscough & Southport.
The roadsign indicates priority to vehicles in this direction because it is
impossible to see beyond the brow of the bridge, whereas traffic coming
from Shevington, and on reaching the bridge, can see beyond as far as the traffic lights and the railway bridge.

Helen I knew two scots lads who lived in a house on the right in the 60s, their dad was a boss at the Robrite factory.

Ray you cannot see the traffic lights or the railway bridge has both are round a bend

Ray your right but you've got it all back to front

This bridge has been crying out for traffic lights for years.

PeterP and Mick, I was stretching my view beyond where I could actually
see, but the point I was trying to make was, the car driver in the above
picture cant see what is beyond until he reaches the brow of the bridge.
Those driving this way can see about 100 yards from the bridge top. Ray.

Having worked at Heinz and my son living in Orrell, plus various other reasons, i've just worked out approximately how many times i've driven over this bridge, the answer is, 24,000 !!
