Montrose Care Home
I think it might be helpful Mick if you explained your pics in a little bit more detail...whats all this one about please ?
I'm a bit lost too, Helen! Are those real shops? They remind me of "play shops" in infants' schools.
Looks as if the 'shops ' etc are there to make the patients/ residents feel at home.
Why have they put the "Corner Shop" in the middle?
Irene and Helen Ive said it before you do easily get lost dont you, a bit like the residents who use these facilities.
Not familiar with this place Mick, any more info ? btw, you weren't cycling on Mesnes Rd, 19:30 last Thursday were you ? We saw someone heading towards the Cherries who looked like you
Trust you James ! If they added an 's' it could be called Corner's Shop . I had relatives named Corner. But I agree it is odd!
Really? don't grasp what is the purpose?
A care home on Montrose Avenue Norley. An exterior garden for the residents and, as therapy, to aid or awaken memory there is the familiar we have around us, the shops - life. Some comments never cease to amaze me.
Yes Standisher it was me on my evening patrol.
I was told by one of the staff that on some days they have mock post office robbery's, they make very realistic and even get two lads with Liverpool accents to do the robbing.
Couldn't agree with you more, Marian
Mick, Marian and Derek, neither Helen nor I have ever seen Montrose Nursing Home and were confronted with a photo of what seemed to be shops and no sign of a nursing home so we had no idea what the purpose was. Without an explanation from the person posting this photo, how were we to realise what it was? Now I am informed about it I can only admire the people at the nursing home for doing this but it was a complete surprise to me to learn what the shops were for. And I can do without being compared to the residents, thankyou, Mick!
I don't think Irene & myself are that thick & stupid Mick and some people looking at PAD don't know the Wigan of today, so it would be of help occasionally to use more than 4 words to describe a photo.
I have just noticed that under the photo it says "Mock shops set up", so fair enough. I just hadn't seen that on first looking and stand corrected.
I was just guessing Irene. It reminded me of when I worked at the hospital. When any elderly patients were on the ward ( palliative care) the doctors would recommend we played 40's music for them. They used to love that, so did I ! Apparently it helped them with issues of memory loss. I believe today it is therapy for patients with Alzheimer's.
I was told that some old bloke called in there asking for an ice cream before being told they were only pretend shops to help with memory, he was almost bundled inside too with the staff thinking he was trying to escape, he then got on a bike and rode off in a huff or was it a puff.
That was funny Worsley Haller - kind of thing to happen on the telly ! Hahaha. Poor thing - if he was on a bike could it have been Mick ?! I bet it wuz....
Veronica, I once had a record by your cousin, Amen!
I must admit, it was me, Veronica. I was out on one of my rides, looking for the Oooomebongos tribe, who live by the Ecum Secum River, and was overcome by a senior moment!
A brilliant idea. I've heard of this before. Residents with memory problems such as dementia, have the opportunity to go to the shop and 'buy' something. It works along the same lines as playing music for dementia patients, it unlocks memories and stimulates them, even if only for a short while. Thank goodness for people who put the time into developing ideas like this, in order to help people with cognitive impairment problems.
Hahaha - ! The Wigan humour , I thought it had disappeared. Sometimes a little gleam appears , even James too. Thanks Tom Plum you must have a sense of it with that nom de plum! ;o))
Veronica, it was a parody of Mick. To explain further...
He'd climbed over the fence to take a photo then couldn't find the door to the ice cream parlour, and whilst making an effort to climb back over the staff ran out thinking a resident had pinched the caretakers Hi-Viz and was attempting an escape, he protested profusely before being manhandled inside and put before Matron, she whilst boxing his ears explained the nature of the shops and then sent him on his way back to the utopian sovereignty of Shangri-La Shevy.
I knew it Tom plum - he's used to having his lug holes boxed. It's just like him. I bet all the shops in Shangri - la are like that!!! Just shop fronts with nowt inside... :o))
