Poor thing must be lost.
Just like the lone female mallard I have visiting at the moment, no water/ponds close by at all.

Comment by: George (Hindley) on 25th June 2021 at 12:42

If it's the old police station it isn't scholes, mick.

Comment by: Helen of Troy on 25th June 2021 at 13:04

Poor thing must have taken the wrong turning homewards...Mick you like taking pics of dumps. I try & see the beauty of this world, still I suppose you tell it as it is......

The Premier Inn, Old Police station is not in Scholes. Its in Wigan Town Centre.Go to Premier Inn, Wigan. The map tells you.

Comment by: Veronica on 25th June 2021 at 13:58

Mind you it was a good walk from the Town Centre. The old, old station was nearer on King St..

Comment by: George (Hindley) on 25th June 2021 at 22:56

It isn't in Wigan town centre either.
Wigan, yes. Town Centre, no.
Imagine yourself, getting a taxi.
Taxi driver, "where to"?
You, "Wigan town centre, please".
Imagine your dismay if he dropped you off in Harrogate Street.

Mick has a thing about all things not Glorious Shevvy.

Comment by: Mick on 26th June 2021 at 07:36

What couldn't be more Glorious than to see a Pheasant in Scholes

Comment by: Veronica on 26th June 2021 at 09:11

Looks like a part of the tall flats on the left and also on the right. Could be anywhere in between, near Scholes bridge ?

Comment by: Bruce Almighty on 26th June 2021 at 11:40

Veronica, you can see Blackpool Tower and Snowdon from Billinge Hill, but neither Billinge Hill or Blackpool Tower are in Wales.

Comment by: Veronica on 26th June 2021 at 14:39

I can see the tops of the Welsh Mountains from my back bedroom Bruce, but they're not in Westhoughton either. I suppose we have to take his word for it being Scholes. He's not going to tell us anyway. Perhaps he was trespassing...

Comment by: Bruce Almighty on 26th June 2021 at 17:31

I don't have to take his word for it, because I know exactly where that is. It's about 50 yards from Harrogate Street's junction with Riverway, on Harrogate Street Car Park.
Scholes is "t'other side o't'river".

Comment by: Veronica on 26th June 2021 at 20:34

I wasn't too far out then ......

Comment by: Bruce Almighty on 26th June 2021 at 22:27

A long way from Scholes Bridge.

Comment by: Veronica on 26th June 2021 at 23:07

I'm a very quick walker... ;o)

Comment by: Veronica on 27th June 2021 at 12:21

To be honest I remember the old Harrogate St and Shelmerdine St, I played around there often enough in the fifties, to me then it was a mere stretch of the legs, no distance at all, even now it wouldn't be "a long way from Scholes Bridge".

Comment by: Bruce Almighty on 27th June 2021 at 18:56

It's a quarter of a mile, four minutes walk.
Or a couple of hundred yards along th'old train line and wade through the river.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th June 2021 at 21:29

4 minutes is nothing ...
From the bottom of the old Amy Lane continue under the bridge that was demolished turn left at the top of the brew and where the old pub was on the bend
( can't just think of the name of it) walk on a few yards. Harrogate St, Shelmerdine St and the Wigan Agency where my mother would buy clothes for us. This was well before the re- development of Wigan.

Comment by: Veronica on 27th June 2021 at 22:08

I think we'll agree to disagree Bruce. The point was the distance from where Mick took the photo is as you said ''a long way from Scholes Bridge'' At the bottom of Scholes. I don't think it is . We are both entitled to our opinions.
