Lovely Postcard picture Dennis, brings back memories of my younger days seeing the Monaco.
Did you have to catch 9 different buses for this Photo Dennis
I have been to Hindley quite a few times, to a crochet group, and ti chi. Then had a look at the shops.I think Hindley is nice.I think more people would go,if the market was still there.I saw something on tv, about a campaign to keep market stalls going.Lets hope they do.
No Sally, I was on Shanks’s Pony for these photos. But I’m still a fan of “Topdeckism”.
Dennis - The old Castle Hill Police Station?
Great photos - haven't seen these buildings for 60 years.
Grandfather born in Bridge Street in 1880, when Hindley was a much smaller place.

Lovely photos Dennis,well done !
It may have got its name back, but is it still pronounced the same, cultured folks would pronounce it as The Monaco same as the principality in France, however the uncouth majority always pronounced it as The Monacko. :¬)
Memorable postcard pictures, most of them hold a memory for me, from the distant days of my youth.
Very familiar.
Great photo's, Dennis.
Not too familiar with Hindley but the locals will love this. Well done, lad.

Walt, he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Aye tha reet theer Shevy Council House Tenant, I think you must be aiming your comment at a certain individual from your neck of the woods, that's were adverse comments regarding council house tenants comes from, just look back over the past two years for proof. I myself was born in and lived in a council house for the first 22 years of my life never once have made a comment regarding this kind of upbringing. I am surprised that there are council houses in Shevy after reading all the adverse comments from you know who. So Ta-ra for naeu.
I agree Walt - I am most flabbergasted that there are council houses in Shangri -la. I too lived in council property after our house was condemned not fit to live in! I must admit it was lovely to have a bathroom for the first time to wallow in. Since then I have never looked back...that is apart from looking back on Wigan World's old photos collection.
