Wigan Life Centre
I hope I don't sound insulting, just because I emigrated from Wigan, but that is the ugliest building I have ever seen.
A good photo of it though Dennis.
Reminds me of the entrance to any Airport in the world. Nice to see the reflections of the older buildings in the glass 'menagerie'.
Too much reflection off the brick buildings spoiling the shot
I think that is what’s known as “A purposeful stride”. I reckon someone is going to get an ear full if she catches up with whoever she as come to see!
In reality, she as probably come to pay the rent or something, but one of the very few pleasures of growing old is that you have time to sit, watch the world go by and let your imagination run riot. People are always, unfailingly interesting.
Lovely bright place to work for the staff and for visitors, its even got doors that open with out you touching them, which must be well appreciated for unmarried mother pram pushing and wheelchair users
I agree with Alan on Vancouver Island...it's ugly! The buildings reflected in its windows, however, are full of warmth and character. Chalk and Cheese! (This observation is of the buildings only, not Dennis's photograph).
Bet window cleaner in not complaining LOL, good photo Dennis with the reflections across the street .
I don’t know about it being the ugliest Alan, there’s a concrete building just up the road on Millgate that would be a strong contender!
Are you sat near there Dennis, watching the world go by.You will see all sorts going on in that area. Why is everything they build today made of glass? Yes the reflection has spoiled the image.
PeterP. You know what to do.
I was having a chat with Geoffrey Shryhane one day and he was praising all the new buildings in Wigan,he said "Don't you think Wigan town centre looks very modern now" I said I'm sorry Geoff but I think we'll agree to disagree..they're just stripping it of all its character..he looked stunned. But there's nothing like the truth is there?.
I don't find the building particularly ugly , it's just that a civic building ought to have more grandeur than this . If it was the entrance to a posh new department store in town , I think people would be delighted .
The point is, we will all have to learn to live with that reflection like it or not, because it will be there as long as both buildings survive.
It would be an impossibility to take a photograph of that building in daylight without getting reflections. I think they add something - perhaps it's the redness of the Accrington bricks which add colour and life to an otherwise insipid building.
I don’t recall a bus route going past there. Nice photograph Dennis.
Good photo Dennis, the reflections make it more interesting. Good for you Maureen !!
It's College Street, not Library Street.
I don’t recall a bus route going past there. Nice photograph Dennis.
College Avenue
Well, I think it's quite a clever trick by the architects - you can't build Accrington brick Victorian monstrosities nowadays - but some people seem to like them - so why not build a glass building which reflects the old college buildings (now the town hall) over the road and get the best of both worlds - offices fit for present-day purposes, with reflections of nostalgia thrown in.
Super job, well done.
David, what makes you think you can't build 'Accrington brick Victorian monstrosities' nowadays?
Tell me where one has been built recently, James.
