New Footbridge

Its a great bridge, with ramps so you don't need to get off your bike.
Thanks for this Mick, I was wondering if the bridge had been replaced, might have a walk that way sometime this week.
Homeric!
great to have a new bridge being from the pemberton area but does anyone no why it took years to be replaced
I'm not familiar with the area but it looks nice. The rich green and gold colours look classy. Looks like a good solid job with good workmanship.
Yes the bridge was damaged by an overturned HGV in 2017, why it's taken so long to be replaced could be down to who pays for it.
At a guess you would think the HGVs insurance, but who knows.
After saying that, it looks great.
good old days, insurance companies are slow to pay out, then it would have to be designed and approved, then it would have to be built, then they would have to apply for for the road to be closed, then it would have to be installed and inspected.
Mick is absolutely right, bridge construction like this has to be made, fabricated and welded.
A massive task is involved.
“The new bridge will mean people in Orrell won’t have to go the long way round to get to Redwood Park and Pemberton’s residents won’t need to walk along a busy road to get to the shops in Orrell.” Said the Wigan Evening Post. I had to laugh.
Well saying we have had to wait three/four years for this to be completed, it looks like it's been worth it. Nice photo Mick.
A very nice looking bridge indeed, but a massive task never. Look at some of the bridges around the UK.

Cost 1.8 Million Pounds 29th September 2020. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/meet-the-wigan-residents-reunited-by-new-18-million-footbridge
Excerpt from above. "The new footbridge has a higher barrier on both sides, making it suitable for cyclists, and a new ramp provides step-free access over the slip road for people with prams and wheelchairs."
I just hope it doesn't end up with graffiti on it. The grot bags can't resist!
I agree with Veronica, gravetti nuts can't resist. It will happen sadly.
One way to claw money back is for the government to fine the culprits who throw litter out on the streets and the same with graffiti yobs.
No broken bottles yet because the footpath is made with bouncy tarmac,
well said broady
