The photo on the top right must be the longest row of daffodils in Wigan, I bet its 200yards long.

Lovely pictures Dennis once again, it has brightened my day thankyou.

What a BLOOMIN good photo Dennis, Unfortunately, for the past five years we have been unable to visit Aspull due to various reasons and so this serves as a beautiful reminder of what the village looks like. Thanks Dennis, you have made our day !!.

Pray do not pick the daffodils, Their life has just begun, Oh let them live as nature meant, Just dancing in the sun. Thank you Dennis, lovely photo.

I have missed the lovely floral displays announcing Spring in Aspull. They always come up Daffodil trump(ets)...

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 31st March 2021 at 09:09

Aspull never fails to put on a good show of Spring flowers. I always enjoy a ride through Aspull. It seems a very pleasant place.

Comment by: Anne on 31st March 2021 at 10:20

Four for the price of one, each one a pleasure.

Comment by: Mick on 31st March 2021 at 10:55

Irene you need to come for a ride to the village of Shevington if you want to see the best flower displays in the Wigan area.
Its all down the Shevington in Bloom ladies who are out they day in and day out sprucing the village up.

Here's a video of what it looked like yesterday morning.

Mick, there are other nice places apart from Shevy.

Comment by: lock lass on 31st March 2021 at 12:03

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures with us, you know it's Spring when the daffodils bloom.

Comment by: Kim on 31st March 2021 at 12:37

Aspull I feel is a much nicer area than Shevington,it seems to have a lovely homely village air about it.

Comment by: Mick on 31st March 2021 at 12:39

I forgot to say multi award winning Shevington in Bloom ladies

Comment by: e on 31st March 2021 at 12:59

Good to wake up to a
daffodil smile ,
Lifts up your spirits
enchant and beguile ,
Humble like always ,
A bow of such grace ,
The spell of the sunshine ,
Cast wand on our face ..

Thankyou Mick. I do like Shevington but I also like Aspull, Standish, Haigh, Hindley, Ince and most of our surroundings in the Wigan area, including my own village of Abram. We have some lovely walks and a lovely churchyard here where I often enjoy a stroll on a sunny day. Home is where the heart is.

Comment by: Mick on 31st March 2021 at 16:18

Irene I was only trying to point out that Aspull flower beds are not a patch of those in Shevington and that you should have a ride up here, and like said Shevington got the Shevington in Bloom ladies who do a amazing job.
Do any of the other places you mention Abram, Aspull, Standish, Haigh, and Hindley have a dedicated award winning team of ladies
I know Hindley have some who keep the railway station tidy but I bet that is it

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 31st March 2021 at 17:14

Mick, the "thankyou" I said to you was for the link you sent to me to see the Shevington pictures. I'm sure the ladies in Shevington do a marvellous job. I have no idea whatsoever of what goes on in other villages as far as upkeep in concerned. We have a churchyard team in Abram who keep the churchyard mown, tidy and a pleasure to walk through and we have a team of volunteer litter-pickers who pick up litter all over the village and do a marvellous job. I really can't comment on the other places I mentioned as I have no knowledge of what they do in the way of upkeep except for Hindley Station.

Mick its Wigan in Bloom by Wigan Council . Shevy no different than any other part of the borough......I agree, Aspull is much nicer than Shevington. Aspull has that much friendly feeling.

Comment by: Maureen on 31st March 2021 at 19:47

Don't you get sick of seeing that word 'Shevington'
it's never struck me as anything special at all and no doubt to anyone else.

Comment by: Wiganer on 31st March 2021 at 20:50

Apperly bridge a much nicer place than Shevy, Gathhurst is too.
Yes your right Maureen.

Comment by: Edna on 31st March 2021 at 22:21

I agree Maureen, I would rather have a ride to Aspull any day, than Shevington.

Comment by: James Hanson on 31st March 2021 at 23:01

Arthur - Shevington IS different to other parts of the borough because it has it's own Parish Council and a higher income than the rest by means of a Parish Precept. It follows that it can afford 'extras'.
Wiganer - Gathurst IS Shevington.

Both Aspull and Shevington have their nice parts and their rough parts. Both are housing estates. Aspull (parts of) enjoy a nicer view.

Comment by: Broady on 1st April 2021 at 04:03

You are quite correct about the Churchyard in Abram. It is impeccably maintained by some great volunteers. Say hello to my Mum and Dad for me next time you walk through.

Comment by: Frank on 1st April 2021 at 06:48

Shevingtonians have a very nice views of the setting sun over Ashurst Beacon and Parbold Hill.
I believe the Shevington in Bloom Ladies maintain Gathust Railway Stations lovely gardens,

Comment by: Janette on 1st April 2021 at 08:07

Doesn't he just love banging a drum about Shevy??? Get real Mick,it's not all that..........just another area of Wigan

Comment by: Irene Roberts on 1st April 2021 at 10:56

I will Broady. It looks lovely at the moment as so many graves have daffodils on. We had a walk through in the evening sunshine on Monday and all the birds were singing. It is a lovely spot.
