They’ve got a great view from there, Mick. Where was the picture taken?

A sweeping panorama from Winter Hill across to Great Hill , with Parlick Pike rising in the gap between Healy Nab . I image you would see the Lake District Fells but for the trees on the left . Nice picture .

Looks windswept up there with the amount of clouds 'scudding' across the sky - very bracing.

Comment by: Anne on 27th March 2021 at 10:12

Surely that is Winter hill in the distance with the light coloured patches. Looks more like the viewpoint is in the Ashurst Beacon area.

What a lovely view they have. We certainly have some lovely countryside around Wigan, (I though it was you and me Dolly dear for a moment, looking for the station!) xx

JoAnne and Anne I'm up Billinge Hill, and the two Wigan lady walkers are looking towards our house up in Shevy.
When I told them they got there binoculars out and said oh yeh we can see your conservatory and fishpond now.

More certain than ever this isn't taken from Winter hill. To the left above the trees Heinz chimney, too the right DW stadium.

Yes we do look lost dear...now where's me map?

Comment by: Poet on 27th March 2021 at 11:52

Quite right Anne , my wording was a bit clumsy . I was referring to the view rather than the viewpoint , which I think could be Billinge Hill .

At least there are only two, wait until next week when the heatwave arrives.Nice photo.Yes we have some lovely walks in and around Wigan.

Did not know Billinge hill came under Wigan so in lockdown if they are Wigan ladies they should not be there? lockdown states stay in your local area for exercise

Looking at Winter Hill from Haigh.

My misunderstanding Poet. Which is Parlick? Some fond memories of the gliding club located nearby and using the slopes to gain height.

Comment by: Poet on 27th March 2021 at 16:08

Right in the centre of the horizon Anne . Lit behind that dark little notch . The sky gets quite colourful with all the hang gliders taking off .

Comment by: Anne on 27th March 2021 at 17:41

Thanks Poet, yes I see the rounded shape. There were no hang gliders at the time I was meaning, winch towed two seater variety. Looking on Google I see the club is still there although changed its name.

I'd rather be an albatross than a human wing,
I'd rather be a condor a master on the wind ,
The wind it can't distract you,
No matter how it blows ,
The Almighty gave you flight,
My Goodness how is shows..
